Project Design Engineer

Eaton’s Electrical Engineering Services & Systems division is seeking a Project Design Engineer to be based out of our Kennewick, WA, Bellevue, WA, Spokane, WA or Wilsonville, OR facility.
Position Overview:
The Power Distribution Systems organization offers career opportunities at a variety of levels representing increased scope and responsibility within the organization. The Project Design Engineer is responsible for the use of modern engineering tools to create and implement designs from inception through installation. Projects will relate to designs of power distribution systems, power system automation, substation(s), hydro-generation, excitation, and solar. The Project Design Engineer will use his/her knowledge of engineering studies, code requirements, and field experience to interpret customer requirements and create state of the art value add designs and construction packages for field installation. The Project Design Engineer will work with the project team to develop scope requirements, cost estimates, design schedules, and project specific designs following the project through to successful completion.
The Project Design Engineer will also provide technical leadership to the district sales & service teams. Individual must be capable of self-managing and working with a team on awarded projects for electrical equipment, including working knowledge of power distribution systems, power system automation, substation(s), hydro-generation controls, excitation controls, and photo voltaic installations. Equipment includes: transformers, oil circuit breakers, power circuit breakers,SF6 gas circuit breakers, metal-clad and enclosed switchgear, protective relaying, power cable, substation equipment, motor control centers, medium voltage control, excitation equipment, automatic transfer switches, rotating equipment and AC drives.
Essential Responsibilities:
  • Provide applied engineering and technical consultation for customers in the areas of power systems studies, design, installation, startup, maintenance, repair and training.
  • Self-management of assigned projects and job cost accountability to perform work within budgeted cost estimates.
  • Interpret specs and customer inquiries and design technical proposals and pricing for customers
  • Short-Circuit, LV/MV Coordination, Arc Flash
  • Ability to run medium studies and projects unassisted
  • Ability to interpret customer requirements with limited assistance
  • Ability to utilize technical field experience to create strong design packages including single lines, three lines, schematics, communication diagrams, interconnection diagrams, plan views, elevations, and construction sequencing drawings.
  • Ability to author job specific specifications and review vendor bids for specification compliance.
  • Testing and Commissioning of Complex Electrical Systems
  • Ability to self-motivate and work remote from other team members


Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution
  • Minimum 5 years of experience working with electrical design
  • Must be authorized to work in the US without company sponsorship
  • No relocation benefit is being offered for this position.  Only candidates that currently reside within a 50 mile radius of the Kennewick, WA, Bellevue, WA, Spokane, WA, or Wilsonville, OR facility will be considered.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Power System Engineering experience
  • Substation Design Experience
  • Hydro Electric Experience
  • Industrial Electrical Power Distribution Equipment Replacement Experience
  • AutoCAD and/or Microstation Experience
  • NEC and NFPA code Familiarity
  • Automation of Electrical Power Systems experience
  • PE license
  • Generator controls experience (exciters and governors)
  • Advanced relay protection experience
  • PLC and DCS programming experience
  • Process control experience
