Job Description:

3M is seeking a R&D Laboratory Technician for the Industrial Business Group (IBG)/Ceradyne located in Salem, New Hampshire. At 3M, you can apply your talent in bold ways that matter. Here, you go.

Job Summary:
To provide technical assistance to engineers and senior technicians in the laboratory by performing routine laboratory experiments, operating machining and manufacturing equipment, testing samples and products, and collecting test data to document for records retention.

Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Preparing and operating laboratory and manufacturing equipment for prototyping and testing. Equipment may include all common machine shop, and fabrication tools and equipment, plus semi-automated composite manufacturing equipment. Supporting technical staff with product development by performing routine tests to determine specific characteristics of experimental materials, or existing product modifications.
Assembling for documentation the total process used in testing. Recording test results in laboratory technical notebooks or on electronic equipment programs. Communicates results and information to the appropriate requester.
Assisting in factory experiments by collecting and interpreting data for test development. Utilizing standard equipment or may work with new machines. Participating in process modification as needed.
Maintaining cleanliness of work area.

Basic Qualifications:
High School Diploma/GED or higher

Preferred Qualifications:
Associates/Two year technical degree from an accredited university
Minimum of three (3) years laboratory technician or relative experience
Experience with standard manual machine shop equipment (including lathes, mill machines and/or hand tools)
Experience with CNC machines
Strong oral and written communication skills
Good organizational, work planning and documentation skills
Demonstrated ability to work on a fast-paced, deadline driven team
Ability to read and understand engineering drawings, dimensions, tolerances, and surface finishes
Intermediate computer skills (including email and word processing)

Travel: Less than 5%
