One of the most experienced and comprehensive medical centers in Kansas! Wesley Medical Center has an immediate opening for a Radiation Physicist in it's Radiation Oncology Department.

The Radiation Physicist is responsible for the provision of the physic services for the therapeutic radiation treatment of patients and the physical aspects of all radiation sources. The Wesley Radiation Oncology department consists of one trilogy and one TrueBean Edge linac, a Phillips Brillance Big Bore CT, A VariSurce iX HDR, Eclipse TPS (v 13.6), Aria EMR, Dose Lab, Xoft for breast IORT, along with I-131 thyroid ablation and Y-90 liver procedures. Many SRS and SBRT procedures are performed every month along with a number of HDR procedures. This position reports to the Chief of Physics and Dosimetry.

The duties of this position are, but not limited to:
  • Develops treatment plans for patients needing radiation therapy
  • Monitors patient charts and adjusts patient treatments to assure radiation therapy is administered precisely as ordered
  • Surveys, inspects, and calibrates all radiation producing equipment to ensure proper functioning
  • Performs QA of treatment planning systems within the Radiation Oncology Department
  • Develops educational programs for patients, employees, and other customers as necessary
  • Assists in the inspection of all areas where radioactive materials are stored, used, or disposed
  • Assists sealed and unsealed radioisotope preparation, handling, and inventory
  • Assists Radiation Oncologists with brachytherapy treatments
  • Participates in improvement of operational functions of the department
  • Monitors and evaluates the quality and appropriateness of care and practices identifying opportunities for improvement through collaboration
  • Performs radiation leak tests, assays and other duties required for brachytherapy program
  • Commissioning of radiation therapy equipment and setting up baseline for routine quality management
  • Assists with treatment protocol certifications

Qualifications:
Required Registration, Licensure or Certification
  • Certification by the American Board of Radiology or the American Board of Medical Physics
Required Education or Experience
  • Master's degree in medical or radiological physics
  • Two years of clinical diagnostic and/or therapeutic radiological experience
Preferred Education or Experience
  • Five years of post-residency therapeutic radiological physics experience

Required Knowledge and Skills
  • Technical knowledge of radiation therapy treatment equipment and computer-assisted treatment planning
  • Knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, pathology, radiation physics, and radiation safety
  • Knowledge of federal regulations that govern the use of radiation
  • Demonstrates ability to communicate effectively verbally and written
Preferred Knowledge and Skills
  • Commissioning of linear accelerators
  • Sun Nuclear 3D Tank software
  • DoseLab experience
  • History of publishing research
  • Taught diagnostic medical physics
