As a Regional Clinical Account Director, you'll play a pivotal role in channeling our scientific capabilities to make a positive impact on changing patients' lives.
The Regional Clinical Account Director (RCAD) has primary responsibility for developing and implementing the AstraZeneca clinical and health economic strategies for the AZ portfolio for Regional Intermediary Accounts, regional Managed/FFS Medicaid accounts and Regional Organized Providers (e.g. IDNs) within a specific geographic territory.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
As the RCAD you will be accountable for communicating clinical information, health economics information, economic modelling and other elements of the value proposition for AZ products across the portfolio to key decision makers in targeted Regional Intermediary accounts (eg. Regional health plans and PBMs), Managed/FFS Medicaid accounts, and Regional Organized Providers (e.g. IDNs) within a specific geographic territory.  You will engage clinical leaders within assigned accounts to understand account priorities, identify opportunities and appropriately deliver clinical and health economic information to benefit patient health; develop and maintain medical relationships with key clinical leaders and decision makers through scientific exchange. This will include communicating the clinical value of AstraZeneca products to clinical leaders within payer accounts by appropriately using approved Medical Affairs and HEOR resources; providing clinical differentiation of AstraZeneca products and address scientific questions related to AstraZeneca products and the relevant disease areas; ensuring timely delivery of credible scientific, health economic and real world evidence to fulfil account requests; delivering account support through appropriate use and integration of scientific expertise, payer knowledge and business resources; contributing payer insight to AstraZeneca and communicating actionable information to Medical Affairs Core Medical Teams, Brand Teams and US Market Access teams.
Additionally as the RCAD, you will collaborate with the Strategic Account Leaders, Regional Account Directors, Brand Medical Directors, HEOR, and other aligned partners for prioritized accounts. You will be accountable for developing and leading the implementation of the medical strategy and tactics for your assigned accounts.  You will collaborate with and ensure effective communication with National Clinical Account Directors, and with local market Therapy Area MSLs to ensure strategic alignment and effective communication of the clinical strategy for the National Accounts and Regional Organized Providers.  As the RCAD you are responsible for coordinating additional scientific resources as needed to support the clinical, health economic and scientific needs of clinical decision makers within assigned accounts.  You will develop strong ongoing medical to medical relationships with C Suite individuals, Medical Directors, and other key clinical decision makers within Regional Organized Provider systems and priority regional intermediary. 
As the RCAD you will demonstrate scientific and business expertise by developing and leading the implementation of the clinical strategy for the AZ portfolio for regional managed market accounts within assigned geography.  This includes developing account plans for scientific, clinical and health economic information needs; collaborating with members of the core account team to implement account strategy; leading and coordinating medical affairs engagement with Regional Clinical Account Directors and local market therapy area MSLs at regional accounts, State Medicaid, GPO, VA/DoD, integrated health systems, and treatment facilities; developing/identifying and implementing projects that align key clinical decision makers' interests with those of AstraZeneca; communicating clinical account strategies to AstraZeneca Senior Leadership Teams and Core Medical Teams; delivering or facilitating payer perspective into US and Global marketing, Core Medical Teams, Health Economic, Real World Evidence, and clinical strategic plans.
As the RCAD you will develop your own capabilities to enhance Medical Affairs engagement of Managed Market clinical leaders.  This includes completing scientific training to ensure ability to support the AstraZeneca portfolio; demonstrating expertise when using approved presentations and HEOR tools; learning the appropriate use of Real World Evidence when engaging clinical leaders within accounts and responding to unsolicited requests; demonstrating high degree of business acumen and understanding of the payer environment; demonstrating flexibility and ability to prioritize in leading multiple clinical initiatives.
Essential Requirements
  • Advanced Clinical or Scientific Degree - M.D., PharmD, and/or Ph.D. 
  • Strong experience in the managed care setting
  • Prior experience in the pharmaceutical industry in medical affairs or clinical development or commensurate experience
  • Strong understanding of US healthcare system, payers, reimbursement methods and integrated health systems
  • Knowledge of clinical development/operations
  • Working knowledge of FDA requirements
  • Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team environment
  • Expert technical depth in disease area and ability to develop expertise across multiple disease areas
  • Strategic influencing skills
  • Leadership skills
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent project management skills
Desirable Requirements
  • PharmD or M.D. with additional post-graduate training (residency or fellowship), or Masters Degree (e.g., MBA, MHA or MPH)
  • Experience in a field medical liaison role
  • Experience in biostatistics and/or evidence generation
  • Strong computer skills (Excel, Word, Power Point, etc.)
  • Knowledge of information/technology systems
