The Clinical Research RN coordinates all research study activities, while also being responsible for all investigational drug accountability and dispensing. They will also be required to maintain direct nursing care responsibilities.

GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES: R esponsible for assessing proposed study protocols and for the coordination and implementation of all nursing and administrative activities related to clinical trials. P erforms within the parameters for which he or she is qualified by education, training, experience and licensure. RN license is required.

DUTIES INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO:
  1. Coordi nates all research study activities with the Principal Investigator and has direct nursing care responsibilities.
  2. Coordinates and manages clinical studies according to OHRP and FDA regulations, as well as, ICH Good Clinical Practices and IRB requirements.
  3. Develop s tactical study procedures
  4. Develop s any necessary study documents not provided by sponsor or IRB
  5. Educates HCA staff regarding research and study protocols
  6. Screen s and recruit s patients based on protocol criteria
  7. Explain s study protocols, procedures and treatments to patients and families
  8. Conduct s the Informed Consent process in conjunction with study investigators
  9. Ensure that an original copy of any subjects Informed Consent Document is the in the research binders, as well as, a copy on the subject's medical record.
  10. May function as Primary Coordinator for research studies
  11. Responsible for all investigational drug accountability and dispensing
  12. Coordinates with Pharmacist if on Delegation Log
  13. Administers Investigational Drug as per protocol
  14. Serve as a resource for department members for medical interpretations of research process and protocol specifics
  15. Assess each proposed study protocol with critical analysis of potential implementation and patient care
  16. Dedicate to creative/innovative growth of research in the division
  17. Acquire continuing education pertinent to research and applicable licensed profession
  18. Responsible for maintaining good clinical practice standards, addressing non-compliance issues, developing corrective action plans
  19. Execute medical orders within parameters of education, training and licensure
  20. Conduct study activities helping to ensure all safety parameters
  21. Investigational device accounting and dispensing
  22. Facilitate administrative review and approval of proposed studies
  23. Provide/coordinate the highest level of contact, counseling and support services
  24. Coordinate study activities and patient care with medical staff (cardiologist and PCP, etc.)
  25. Implement and adhere to study protocol
  26. Perform Phlebotomy and IV procedures
  27. Prepare laboratory specimens for analysis, monitoring tests and procedures, shipping frozen specimens
  28. Maintain patient records in EMR and appropriate hospital records
  29. Assess and report adverse study events, included to the IRB and any research sponsors
  30. Complete all paperwork affiliated with the study, including but not limited to the requirements of the facility, the IRB and the study Sponsor
  31. Maintain copies of all research related correspondence
  32. Conduct study activities helping to ensure all safety parameters
  33. Maintain professional relationships with sponsors, Clinical Research Organizations, research teams, pharmacies, laboratories, IRB's, and hospitals for the coordination of research activities
  34. Review research and pertinent journals, abstracts and scientific literature
  35. Practice and adhere to the "Code of Conduct" philosophy and "Mission and Value Statement".


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: This position requires the following minimum requirements:

  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, clinical and administrative staff and the public

  • Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards
  • Ability to understand and follow basic scientific research protocol and procedure
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities at once with minimal supervision.
  • Highly proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint), email, internet
  • Advanced understanding of data management processes
  • Ability to analyze and interpret scientific data and skilled in the use of computerized systems and databases.
  • Knowledge of government regulations and compliance issues regarding clinical research and protection of human subjects (e.g. "Common Rule", "GCP", etc.)
  • Knowledge of medical coding and billing procedures in a physician practice setting.

Qualifications:
EDUCATION:
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing or other health related field.
CERTIFICATION/LICENSE:
  • Licensed RN
  • CCRC is preferred
  • BLS Certification; ACLS preferred
  • Actively maintained CCRC (Certified Clinical Research Coordinator) preferred

EXPERIENCE:
  • Minimum of two years experience in area of research specialty required.
  • Minimum of two years clinical research experience.
