General Description:
Under general supervision, provides expert nursing care in a hospital to patients of the dialysis department.

Essential Function/Duties:
Assumes responsibility for dialysis patients assigned. Documents patient responses to nursing interventions and prescribed medical treatments; notes all changes in physician order on assigned patients. Assists physician in the examination of patients and in performing minor diagnostic procedures and treatment. Obtains and monitors physiological data of patients, observes the physiological manifestations of patients and intervenes when necessary. Administers medication as prescribed; initiates, regulates and monitors intravenous infusions and blood products; delivers patient care competently. Interacts with family and patient in sharing care plan while in the hospital and at time of discharge; informs patient and family of hospital procedures. Makes referral regarding patient care needs to appropriate personnel. Delegates tasks to support staff. Obtains blood sampling on a hemodialysis patient for pre and post dialysis lab draws for an ESRD patient. Performs operations dealing with Reverse Osmosis water system. Initialization and termination of dialysis with all available access i.e., central lines, grafts, fistulas, Life site ports, peritoneal lines.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:

*Education: Graduation from an approved school of nursing.

*Experience: One (1) year experience in an acute care setting

*Licensure: Possession of a valid temporary license or permanent license issued by the Oklahoma
State Board of Nursing as a Registered Nurse prior to entrance on duty.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of professional nursing theory, practices, techniques and procedures. Knowledge of dialysis equipment including hemodialysis, reverse osmosis water system peritoneal dialysis equipment. Ability to organize, plan, coordinate and evaluate nursing services and apply nursing techniques. Ability to maintain good working relationships with other employees. Good verbal and written communication skills. Some computer skills.

Physical Requirements (with or without accommodation):
Requires frequent bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling, moving, lifting of patients and sufficient manual dexterity to operate therapeutic equipment. Must be able to stand for long periods at a time. Good mental and physical health to work for long periods of time in a highly stressful atmosphere is required.

Special Per Diem Requirements:

1. Be available to work at least thirty-six (36) hours per week.
2. Work the shifts needed by the Department to which you are assigned
3. Work as the needs of the Department to which you are assigned requires, and that requests for time off will be granted only as staffing needs permit.
4. Attend Department Staff meetings.
5. Work holidays that are recognized at OUMS, and that you will not receive holiday differential pay.
6. Work no more than 40 hours per week
