POSITION SUMMARY: Under direct supervision of the Director of the Neuro/Ortho and according to hospital policies and procedures, the Neuro Navigator facilitates a timely, integrated and coordinated approach to the care of orthopedic patients. Uses a multi disciplinary approach and acts as a liaison between the patient, staff and referring physician offices as well as ancillary areas of the hospital system. Identifies learning needs and the content for educational programs. Develops, presents, coordinates and evaluate education activities. Effectively performs in the role of clinician, facilitator, advocate, consultant and / or researcher.
Qualifications:
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS (PREFERRED): BSN

EDUCATION: BSN in appropriate clinical nursing specialty.

EXPERIENCE: A minimum of 5 years of direct patient care in the area of specialization .

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Sets priorities and makes decisions of a complex nature. Interfaces directly with physicians, patients, family members, and other health team members throughout the St. David's Medical Center . Maintains confidentiality of patient's medical records. Regular and predictable attendance is required. May be required to care for patients of all ages throughout the lifespan of the patient.

• Must be able to demonstrate understanding of HCA's and St. David's "Patient First" safety initiative by strict compliance to all safety protocols and procedures.
• Recognizes that variables such as age, race, nationality, culture, disease-causing vulnerabilities, and socio-economic factors affect the patient populations under their care as defined in the unit's provision of care statement. Uses interventions appropriate to these factors (e.g., Interpreter, dietary preferences, social services consultation, etc.)

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION : Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Texas. Current BLS from The American Heart Association as a Healthcare Provider. Preferred certification in area of Ortho or specialty when eligible. Is a participant in a professional organization.
