Job Description:

The Trauma Registry is a disease-specific database composed of data elements that describe the events of the injury, demographics, pre-hospital information, diagnoses, care, and outcomes of trauma patients. This data aids in performance improvement, public health, injury prevention, outcomes measurement and research. In addition the trauma registry is essential in the success of any trauma center.

Job Responsibilities Include but are not Limited to:
  • The Trauma Registrar is tasked with abstracting, analyzing, and coding detailed medical records information as well as entering it into the Trauma Registry in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Responsible for data submission to the appropriate National and State databases as well as report generation.
  • Registrar assists in the Trauma Performance Improvement and Patient Safety activities by auditing records for specified indicators, identifying trends in care/outcomes and trending data through various performance improvement reports.
  • This position does not provide direct patient care, but does utilize the basic principles in evaluating the care as part of the Performance Improvement program.

  • Assist with projects under the direction of the Trauma Program Director or designee and reports to the Lead Trauma Registrar.

Required Job Qualifications Include:

  • High School graduate required.
  • Minimum of Associate Degree in health-related field or equivalent work experience of at least two (2) years with strong emphasis on data integrity and analysis.
  • Bachelor's degree in health-related field is preferred.
  • Previous Clinical Registry and Report Writing is preferred.
  • Certified Specialist in Trauma Registry (CSTR) within three (3) years of employment.
  • Demonstrates strong analytical skills, communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, and excellent organizational skills.
  • Have the ability to prioritize requests and assignments.
  • Self-directed with initiative to function independently as needed.
  • Medical terminology and an understanding of human Anatomy and Physiology is essential. Injury scoring utilizing the AAAM's Abbreviated Injury Scale 2005 is preferred.

  • ICD-10-CM/PCS coding experience is highly recommended.
  • Proficiency in utilizing computers and software such as excel, outlook and word is essential
