The Nor Pac Region of Airgas USA, LLC, (responsible for Oregon, Washington, and Alaska) is currently seeking a Repair Technician to work out of our Portland, Oregon office.

JOB DESCRIPTION : Repairs and maintains gas detection equipment, and rental equipment, according to blueprints, catalogs, and data charts, applying knowledge of gas detection equipment. Inspects equipment and observes operation to detect cause of malfunction. Disassembles equipment, using hand tools. Selects replacement parts lists and catalogs, or repair parts, such as sensors, PC Boards, and miscellaneous parts. Solders loose connections. Repair PC Boards using electronic test equipment. Reassembles equipment, using hand tools, and measuring instruments. Sets up and calibrates repaired equipment to verify operation.

Provide excellent customer service in person or via phone. Advises customer on tools, hardware, and materials needed, and procedure to follow to complete tasks customer wishes to perform. Informs customer about quality of tools, hardware and equipment, and demonstrates use. Answers customer questions concerning location, price and use of merchandise. Totals price and tax on merchandise purchased by customers using computer, calculator and/or paper and pencil to prepare invoice. Accepts payment and makes change.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

• Working safely is a condition of employment with Airgas.
• Perform major and minor repair gas detectors utilizing vendor technical manuals and wiring schematics.
• Maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner so that you get along with customers, vendors, co-workers and management.
• Provide excellent customer service to both internal and external customers.
• Communicate by phone, e-mail and in person with customers, sales staff, store managers and others, inquiring about and providing information on cost, ordering and delivery times, etc.
• Communicate by phone and in person with vendors, customers, sales staff, store managers and others, providing information on cost, repair times, etc.
• Follow up and close on equipment sales leads.
• Maintain inventory of spare parts for gas detectors and rental equipment.
• Maintain rental equipment.
• Maintain maintenance log to document time and supplies to accurately bill customers.
• Order parts and supplies utilizing a computer terminal.
• Establish and maintain good customer relations.
• Maintain neat, clean and professional personal appearance.
• Coordinate with purchasing department any product shortages or outages.
• Ensure all administrative and accounting related procedures are strictly observed.
• Perform research to inquiries as necessary.
• Involved in store activities including sales, inventory control, housekeeping, delivery, when required by the Store manager.
• Work safely and maintain a safe work environment through STOP training and implementation of STOP safe practices.

MARGINAL DUTIES:

• Operate a forklift, pallet jack and other warehouse equipment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• Some knowledge of mechanics, electronics, and electricity.
• Ability to read and comprehend vendor repair manual instructions.
• Ability to perform very heavy work - routinely lift 25-75 lbs., occasionally lift 76 to greater than 100 lbs.
• Ability to perform work during prolonged standing up to 8 hours; frequent bending, stooping, crouching, reaching, grasping, feeling and repetitive motion also required.
• Ability to perform work during occasional climbing, balancing, kneeling, crawling, pushing, pulling and finger activities.
• Must be able to work inside and outside in temperatures ranging from 10 to 110 degrees.
• Ability to work independently and under some pressure to meet deadlines.
• Must be able to work occasional overtime, if necessary.

• Must be able to operate in a drug-free workplace.
