Amgen is significantly expanding our Research and Development facility in Cambridge MA (AMA) and the Research Operations Manager will report into the Discovery Research Operations team. The Research Operations Manager will be responsible for supporting both the laboratory and site operations for Amgen's Cambridge, MA site. This is a highly visible position that will be involved in the planning and growth of this pivotal site for Amgen.
Responsibilities:
Point of contact for the management of day-to-day operations in the lab.
Act as a conduit between functional areas and various operational support resources, implementing equipment sharing and general issue resolution.
Drive the development and implementation of process improvements in the labs including being involved in the Lab Process Excellence initiative.
Responsible for implementing laboratory safety initiatives and driving adherence to safety policies and practices.
Oversight of the implementation and execution of corporate initiatives at the site including managing lab design/modification and lab move projects.
Cross-functional participation in site operations, interfacing with functional laboratory leadership, Lab Asset Management Program representatives, Environment, Health, Safety and Sustainability (EHSS) representatives and site services points of contact to drive deliverables and lead execution.
Oversight of Amgen's relationship with LabCentral, a life sciences incubator space.
Serve as a member of a team of after-hours contacts to address facility, operational and personnel emergencies.
Approximately 5% domestic travel expected.
Basic Qualifications:
Doctorate degree
OR
Master's degree and 2 years of Scientific Lab experience
OR
Bachelor's degree and 4 years of Scientific Lab experience
OR
Associate's degree and 10 years of Scientific Lab experience
OR
High school diploma / GED and 12 years of Scientific Lab experience
Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced degree in Organic Chemistry or Biological Sciences, with a familiarity in the other. 8+ years of work experience in a laboratory setting.
Experience supporting laboratory operations of a bioscience lab, in particular, a medicinal and/or process chemistry laboratory.
Experience managing complex laboratory moves and driving operational efficiency in a laboratory network.
Proven project manager who has experience leading cross-functional, complex programs.
Participation in the development or maintenance of lab safety programs.
Ability to work in a team/matrix environment, to collaborate and coordinate with internal and external department staff at various levels, to influence others effectively and to handle multiple responsibilities, tasks and projects simultaneously.
Quick learner who is proactive and takes initiative and has excellent communication and people skills.
