Job Description: The Networking Platforms Lab (NPL) in Intel Labs is an innovative research group that works closely with key product groups, industry partners and academic research communities to drive technology advancements and business impacts. The group investigates and prototypes advanced platform and system architecture to transition today's networking infrastructure onto IA-based platforms through a combination of software-defined networking (SDN), network-function virtualization (NFV), scalable software-based switching/routing and new hardware extensions to IA-based platforms.
We are looking for highly motivated platform and system architects who will be responsible to analyze current platform and network related system limitations covering aspect from capacity, throughput, latency, jitter, to quality of services, when operating in scalable, high-performance and virtualized environments, and design new platform and system architecture enhancements for such environments. In this role you will be required to investigate, analyze, simulate and/or prototype proposed platform and system features and collaborate with architects from business group partners to evaluate and bring advanced networking system design to life.
PhD in Computer Science / Electrical Engineering preferred including track record of publications in top conferences
5 years network system and software experience
The ideal candidate should have:
Experience in architecture development including system analysis, problem decomposition, analysis and a pragmatic understanding of how systems are put together
Proficiency in network architecture, protocols and device architectures (NICs, routers/switches, load balancer, NAT, firewall, etc.)
Understanding of modern Intel platform architecture, including latest platform advancements in CPU microarchitecture, cache and memory including QoS, cache IO, virtualization, etc. Simulation and/or design experience a plus
Excellent knowledge of system software architecture including kernel and driver (Linux required, Windows a plus), proficient in C/C , scripting languages like Python
Ability to analyze bottlenecks in an existing system design and propose improvements to increase performance, efficiency, scalability and stability of system components of a scalable network system
Demonstrated ability to set direction and gain consensus through influence and negotiations and ability to work in ambiguous technical environments
