The Commercial Card team is seeking a process and detail oriented risk manager who is excited to joining a fast-growing field sales team.  The Commercial Card National Sales team is primed to grow to more than 250 full time associates within the next 24 months. Risk Managers at Capital One are the front line of defense to ensure our Company remains stable and profitable. This risk manager is part of the business team and will be accountable for working with advisors and business partners to identify and manage risk risks of the national field sales team. They may support risk management requirements development, policy and procedure documentation and maintenance, controls development, audit and exam support.  


  • Lead multiple complex Risk initiatives, programs and processes for the Commercial Card business
  • Analyze and interpret data and information to drive the intent and strategy for various Risk projects
  • Seek independent guidance and advice to the business in implementing risk policies and programs;
  • Seek and incorporate best practices from other lines of business
  • May have direct reports/small team of associates to manage and develop as part of role
  • Ensure appropriate governance, processes and accountabilities;
  • Identify, assess and manage risk, including emerging risks and regulatory focus areas, providing appropriate documentation of such risks;
  • Have a clear understanding of business strategies, products, services, and risk profile;
  • Create and maintain appropriate processes and procedures to self-identify, assess, document, control and manage risks;
  • Design an adequate combination of preventive and detective controls; partner with CML Card operations to implement and execute
  • Regularly review and update controls to reflect change in the organization and in the overall risk and control environment;
  • Close any gaps in controls and correct control deficiencies and issues in a timely manner to help maintain a secure and compliant operating environment

Required Skills

  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and define necessary structure for a successful implementation
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Create and implement innovative solutions to identify and mitigate potential risks to the Company

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree or military experience
  • At least 1 year of Financial Services Risk Management experience
  • At least 4 years of experience working with internal business clients
  • At least 1 year of experience leading cross-functional teams

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least 7 years of Project Management experience leading cross functional projects and programs in Risk
  • At least 3 years of Financial Services risk management experience
  • PMP Certification or Masters Certificate of Project Management (CPM) or MBA or Master’s degree in related field of study
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt
