POSITION SUMMARY :
This position, under the supervision of the Director, oversees the patient care team of RN's, LVNs, Unit secretaries, PCTs, and other team members assigned. The Manager of a Nursing Unit is responsible for: daily operation of the unit(s), supervision of charge nurses and collaborates on clinical issues and verbal discipline/coaching with follow up documentation. The Manager coordinates performance appraisal data gathering, monitors and supervises unit participation in quality improvement, assesses staff need for education and provides hands on patient care coaching. The Manager is responsible to meet all, but not to perform on a daily basis, job duties as outlined in the Registered nurse job description, when required by patient for unit needs, as well as those listed in this job description.Qualifications: KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES :
Written and verbal communication skills adequate for performance of the position. Supervisory skills. Works autonomously, sets priorities and makes independent decisions of a complex nature. Interfaces directly with public, physicians, staff, patients, administration, and ancillary departments.
Must be able to demonstrate understanding of national patient safety initiatives by strict compliance to all safety protocols and procedures as required by both HCA and Round Rock Medical Center. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :
- Graduation from a NLN accredited school of nursing
- A minimum of (1) year experience as a Staff Nurse in related area
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES :
- Completion of or actively pursuing a BSN degree
- Three (3) ears experience as a Staff Nurse and/or six (6) months experience as a Relief
- Licensed in the state of Texas as RN
- AHA BLS at time of hire
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP :
- Certification in area of specialty.
Reports to: Supervisor, Nursing Unit/Director of Unit
Positions supervised: Professional and non-professional personnel assigned by shift to the unit i.e.: RN, LVN, PCT, Unit Clerk. Number of employees supervised varies.
