Postpartum - Mother/Baby
This unit is a 22-bed unit that has transition from Postpartum care to Mother-Baby care
This position, under the supervision of the Manager or Charge Nurse coordinates and provides patient care. This care includes conducting initial and ongoing assessment of the patient and family, development of an individualized patient care plan, family centered patient teaching, the identification of and correction of variances from the patient care plan and the facilitation of discharge planning and teaching. Patient census may include antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum, including the administration of magnesium sulfate and tocolytics. May be required to assist with the following procedures: amniocentesis, versions, vaginal deliveries, vacuum extractions, forcep deliveries, circulate for cesarean sections, or elective terminations for medical indications. Staffing ratios are in accordance with AWHONN guidelines.
Knowledge and Skills:
Practices within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act for the state of Texas and uses standards established by AWHONN, the professional organization for this area. Works autonomously, sets priorities and makes independent decisions of a complex nature. Interfaces directly with physicians, staff, patients, administration and ancillary/ support departments. Demonstrates an ability to communicate, orally and in writing, clearly, effectively and in an open, accepting manner to diverse populations. Possess critical thinking skills leading to timely, sound decisions. Sets and achieves goals and objectives. Demonstrates an ability to adhere to the Customer Service Expectations of Round Rock Medical Center. Serves as a role model for the values of St. David's Healthcare Partnership. Must be able to demonstrate understanding of HCA's and St. David's "Patients First" safety initiative by strict compliance to all safety protocols and procedures. All employees must be trained or certified on systems that contain sensitive and confidential information.
Required: Graduation from a NLN accredited school of nursing
Required: Minimum of one year acute care experience
Preferred: One year Labor and Delivery experience
Required: Licensed in the state of Texas as RN. Current Certification by the American Heart Association in BLS course C or D provider. On employment or within 6 months of hire, completion of Neonatal Resuscitation program. Certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support and AWHONN's Fetal Monitoring Principle and Practice (for RNs with one year or more of L&D experience) certification on employment or completed within 6 months of hire.
Preferred: Certification in area of specialty
