Under the supervision of the Director of Respiratory Therapy, responsible for working collaboratively with the health care team to ensure that both practice and professional standards are identified and maintained in the delivery of patient care, and that determined patient outcomes are achieved. Promote excellence in patient care, while supporting and facilitating professional growth and development, and upholding standards of professionalism. Coordinate staff and student clinical training needs; develop educational materials; conduct training sessions and orientation with staff; and evaluate the effectiveness of the training in support of Respiratory Care objectives in the appropriate areas of care. Maintain records of performance and competence. Maintain compliance with annual competencies.
Coordinates orientation, competencies and ongoing education required for unit specific aspects of care. Maintains department education files, including new employee orientation checklist, equipment training checklist, mandatory in-service attendance confirmation and continuing education sessions provided. Assists the Director of Respiratory Therapy with maintaining and developing policies and procedure for the department. Monitors and assists with the collection, documentation, and reporting of quality assessment and improvement data; extracts pertinent information from quality assessment and improvement studies. Assists with monitoring the compliance and operation of ePOC and Avox blood gas analyzers. Organizes and provides needed training for the Respiratory Therapy Department, Nursing and Physicians, and other departments. Assists in evaluating the department supply needs to reduce unwarranted supplies and find equipment to improve patient care. Coordinating Various department functions as per Director request. Coordinates clinical affiliation and serves as a preceptor for RT students. Assists the Director of Respiratory Therapy with monitoring compliance with QRS, TJC, and all federal and state regulatory agencies on an ongoing basis. Serves as the clinical resource expert to the staff. Represents the department in interdepartmental meetings as needed. Assists the Director with miscellaneous projects and assignments as delegated. Authorized to access secure drug and biological storage areas when completing a medication management orientation and when necessary to perform, the assigned duties. Provides education to accommodate night shift when needed. Able to perform PFT's.Qualifications: Education/License/Certification:
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Registered by the National Board of Respiratory Care and licensed to practice in the state of Texas as a Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP).
- Current Healthcare Provider BLS issued by the American Heart Association required.
- Current ACLS issued by the American Heart Association and NRP
- Three or more years as a Respiratory Educator or extended history of initiative in education programs/projects.
- Minimum five years experience in Respiratory - one to two years supervisory or preceptor experience preferred.
- NICU experience is preferred.
