Duties and Responsibilities:


Safely performs special needs patient lifts/transfers to include repositioning and occasional transportation of patients. Provides care appropriate to age of patients served. Utilizes effective and appropriate communication and interpersonal skills. Adheres to established facility policies and procedures to include quality assurance programs, safety and environmental and infection control.


Lifts, transfers, and repositions patients utilizing appropriate lifting and transferring techniques and assistive lift devices to ensure the safety and comfort of the patient.

Maintains friendly, efficient service attitude toward customers, clients and co-workers.

Is aware of the patient's current medical, physical, and mental condition by verifying the status with the nursing staff as it relates to the required lift activity.

Clearly communicates or demonstrates to Safe Patient Handling partner, nursing staff and patient the lift technique and/or the utilization of the assistive lift devices.

Evaluates lift area for hazards and takes appropriate action to eliminate them. Introduces himself/herself and verifies patient identity, using two methods.

Coordinates availability, storage and proper maintenance of transfer and assistive lift devices. Sanitizes assistive lift devices after each use following proper protocol. Immediately reports any assistive lift device malfunctions and removes assistive lift device from service until repaired.

Maintains current CPR/BLS certification and successfully meets the standards of job competencies, annual lift testing, body mechanics, and proper use of assistive lift devices.

Coaches and models standards on proper lifting and transferring procedures for other healthcare staff, patients, and families.

Fully communicates all lifting activities accurately by designated means to support the reporting of department statistics.

Follows guidelines for personal stretching and warm-up activities to prepare for physical activities at beginning and end of each shift.

Performs other related duties as assigned or requested by the Customer Service Representative (CSR) or Central Transportation management team.

Knows the locations within the hospital facility and uses safe, efficient routes to and from all locations. Participates in codes and emergency response as trained.

When required, must be able to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays.

Reports to work on time and as scheduled; completes work within designated time.

Complies with dress code and uniform standards for department.

Wears identification badge issued by hospital while on duty.

Maintains compliance with ARAMARK's standards of operation, the client's standards of operation and within ARAMARK's Business Conduct Policy. Maintains all records and reports necessary to regulations and codes.

Maintains compliance with all requirements of Federal, State and local regulations and guidelines including the Civil Rights Act of 1964, as amended, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967, as amended, and the Americans with Disabilities Act, as amended.

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Position prefers a high school diploma or general education degree (GED). CPR certification required within 30 days of date of hire. Must pass Safe Patient Handling orientation and competency demonstration. Speak, read, and write English at a level that is sufficient to satisfactorily perform the essential functions of the position. Ability to use phone functions and automated work flow log as required. Ability to apply elementary math functions. Ability to reason, analyze, and prioritize multiple requests and respond in a timely manner. Ability to use computer skills to access/record lift activities.


Prefer six (6) months to a year in an acute or long term healthcare facility or at least 90 days on-the-job training with Transport Staff.

The work environment characteristics described in the following tables are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. This is an OSHA category 1 job: tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids, tissues, and other potentially infectious materials.

  • Build relationships with Plant staff, faculty, staff, and students
  • Receive service requests via phone calls, emails, and on-line submittals
  • Dispatch technician to respond to serve calls.
  • Create, enter data, and close work orders
  • Work with the Plant foreman to maintain an accurate work order backlog
  • Provide information to Plant and University personnel in times of crisis
  • Work closely with the SRC foreman in developing programs to facilitate communication with the Campus.

Secondary Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Education Required:
  • High School or equivalent.

Minimum Experience Required:
  • One (1) year of call and customer service experience.
Minimum Skills/Aptitudes Required:
  • Must be able to interact and possess communication skills with individuals at all levels of organization, as well as clients, vendors, and sub-contractors.
  • Attention to detail is required.
Other Desired Qualifications:
  • Must possess flexibility toward work assignments and be a team player.
  • Must be able to understand and carry out oral and written instructions and to communicate effectively in writing.
  • Possess motivation and initiative to perform assigned duties with a minimum of direct supervision.
