JOB PURPOSE
Provides assigned locations with the requisite guidance, oversight, and assistance to ensure the locations have a culture of safety and are striving towards zero incidents. Also ensures locations operate in full regulatory compliance with all applicable DOT & OSHA requirements and in a manner consistent with Airgas policies & procedures.

Conducts regular location visits to train and evaluate drivers as well as Branch audits at each location. Prepares timely concise reports to the Branch leadership, appropriate regional and corporate personnel, so as to remedy and/or escalate identified issues.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assist with on-boarding new drivers. This will consist of two days conducting classroom training & exercises and a minimum of 1 day with the new driver running his route to evaluate & coach. Additional on-route time maybe required depending on the drivers performance. In junction with the Branch & Region Manager, the Area Safety Supervisor will determine if the driver is ready to begin driver with the branch "driver trainer" or if the new driver is to be released.

      • Reviews DriveCam events will all drivers & Smith System techniques that should have been used to avoid the event
      • Branch audit
  • Train branch "driver trainers" to evaluate & coach new drivers after initial on-boarding
  • Train Branch Managers
    • DriveCam system use & coaching
    • Safety Programs (SS, GOAL & Cone, Compass, Mirror check, PowerZone, DOT & OSHA required training programs)
  • Visit branches periodically to conduct unannounced driver evaluations

      • Provides coaching when necessary

  • DriveCam
    • Identifies at-risk drivers & assists Branch Managers with correcting poor behaviors
      • Provides on-site coaching with at-risk drivers when necessary
    • Tracks driver scores & ensure DriveCam policy is adhered to
    • Tracks branch scores & works with Branch Managers to achieve a "5" rating
  • Assist Branch Managers with the investigation & reporting of vehicle accidents, injuries & Smith Safe calls
    • Ensures post incident corrective actions are conducted
  • DOT regulatory compliance
    • Monitors HOS & DDM to ensure compliance
    • Provides retraining/coaching to drivers who receive CSA violations
    • Ensures proper post accident Drug & alcohol testing is conducted
  • Conducts Branch audits to include 5S/VFM
    • Ensures all findings are corrected
  • Ensures regulatory & non-regulatory required training is completed & documented.
  • Participates in monthly branch safety meetings either in person or via conference call
  • Conducts Annual Smith System training
  • Ensures all unsafe delivery sites are investigated and corrected.
  • Verifies OSHA logs are properly completed and posted when required

None

RELATIONSHIPS
Internal: Regularly interfaces and as required collaborates with: Drivers, Branch Managers, Region Safety Managers, Regional Operations Managers, Dry Ice Operations Vice President, Carbonic/Dry Ice VP-Safety and Corporate Office functions.

External: On an as needed basis will interface with Warner Fleet & external maintenance providers as well as industry peers to stay current on emerging issues, best practices, etc.
Qualifications:
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience: Minimum of 2 years safety related experience with a strong emphasis coaching and training drivers. College degree preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Smith System certified or the ability to be certified within 30 days of start date and a working knowledge of DOT regulations. Ability to effectively work with operations management and fleet operating personnel (including drivers, maintenance personnel, etc.). Comfortable with training program delivery in front of groups. Ability to learn use of standard MS desktop (e.g. Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.) Must have collaborative, consultative and team oriented approach. Ability to travel 70%.
