This Sales Manager opening is within Nationwide Agribusiness and reports to the AVP.
The Southern half of California is the preferred home base location to support the territory, but would entertain other areas in California as well dependent on the skill set and qualifications of the selected individual.
Must be willing to travel throughout the region to customer locations. Frequent overnight travel may be required.
The ideal candidate will possess insurance, agribusiness and/or sales experience.
JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for defined territory agency plant, including recruiting, training, developing and executing specific business plans that are mutually beneficial for the company and agency. Engages in sales, service and risk management activities which achieve profitability and growth goals. Provides technical and procedural advice and counsel to all Agribusiness underwriting, exclusive agency, appointed and independent agents.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: Reports to AVP, Agribusiness Regional Sales. Direct Reports: number will vary by region.
+ Consults with staff to define needs and/or problems associated with sales/marketing activities.
+ Identifies, coordinates, and delivers training necessary to maintain continuous development of sales and risk management skills, knowledge, and service excellence for all regional staff.
+ Administers and implements the best sales/marketing/risk management practices, policies, procedures, and programs in the region.
+ Responsible for sales and customer service issues, alerting of pending concerns and opportunities.
+ Researches, analyzes, and monitors sales and service-related information and provides reports or information to leadership and/or market teams to capitalize on market opportunities and minimize the effects of competition.
+ Leads the development and implementation of regional sales/marketing plans and objectives to ensure growth and profitability.
+ Assists and monitors sales staff in prospecting new business from initial contact to close of sale as well as servicing and consulting policyholders on appropriate coverages and policy features.
+ Performs other duties as assigned.
TYPICAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCES:
Education: Undergraduate studies in business, insurance or related field.
License/Certification/Designation: Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) or Completion of Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) designation is highly desired. Meet the professional certification and/or P&C sales licensing requirements of state jurisdictions (in which assigned) for providing sales and service, within a period of time specified and agreed upon at time of employment.
Experience: Six to eight years experience within the insurance industry, business, government, or agribusiness.
Knowledge: Knowledge of Agribusiness products, services, processes, procedures and sales techniques. Project management concepts. Working knowledge of state laws and regulations required.
Skills/Competencies: Demonstrated ability to routinely reach or exceed sales goals. Command of all skills necessary for verbal and written communication with policyholders, field sales, and office personnel. Ability to operate a personal computer and related software. Ability to motivate people to affect change. Ability to set work priorities and to initiate, evaluate and recommend solutions to upper management.
Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.

Working Conditions: Sufficient physical mobility and capability to do field work promptly and without assistance, such as surveys, climbing ladders, walking for extended periods, and carrying equipment up to 50 pounds. Frequent travel within assigned region.Most sales managers work from a remote location, such as an office out of their home.A valid driver's license and safe driving record are required.
