ROLE SUMMARY Develop and deliver chemical process technology in support of commercial Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) manufacturing. Perform production troubleshooting, support and improvement. Serve as the primary technical expert for the manufacturing methods, perform scientific laboratory studies, and make recommendations to improve manufacturing reliability, cost, safety, compliance and environmental performance. Support the introduction of new processes into the facility, and support in-sourcing and out-sourcing projects for supply chain optimization. Work closely with the API manufacturing plant, review procedures, review process performance data, and solve process problems. Provide technical knowledge, expertise and evaluation for other support functions. ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES Provide solutions to a variety of chemical and processing problems of moderate scope and complexity. Implements new methods and processes to solve process related problems as assigned. Works under general supervision. Follows established procedures. Recommends actions. Work is reviewed for soundness of judgment, overall adequacy and accuracy. May be assigned independent projects. Contributes to the completion of specific team objectives and assigned project milestones. Decisions impact their own work and that of the department. Maintain laboratory area and equipment in clean, safe, functional order. Primarily internal company contacts (Production, Safety, Quality, and Regulatory). QUALIFICATIONS Education: Master's Degree or Bachelor's Degree with two years experience. Preference is given to applicants with synthetic organic chemistry laboratory experience in a research laboratory setting. Proficiency with a variety of laboratory techniques expected (TLC, HPLC, distillations, reflux reactions, extractions, column chromatography, Proton NMR, etc.). PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS Position involves considerable standing in the laboratory, working with the hands and arms, and computer work. Normal sitting, standing, walking and lifting ability. Must be able to work around a variety of chemical and biological materials, and in chemical manufacturing facilities. NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS Must be able to work non-regular schedules as needed to accommodate the needs of laboratory and production operations.
