Role Summary:

The Scientist / Senior Scientist, Process Transfer and Development, Upstream works with a team of Scientists in the Process Transfer and Development (PTD) team.

Essential Responsibilities:

This department has the responsibility for upstream activities within Fast Track - Biomanufacturing (FTBM). These activities include: process development, scale-up, internal and external technical transfer and manufacturing production support. Additional responsibilities include conventional and single-use manufacturing suite design support, marketing support and evaluation/development of new upstream technologies and devices.

Description:

The Scientist / Senior Scientist, Process Transfer and Development, Upstream works with a team of Scientists in the Process Transfer and Development (PTD) team. This department has the responsibility for upstream activities within Fast Track - Biomanufacturing (FTBM). These activities include: process development, scale-up, internal and external technical transfer and manufacturing production support. Additional responsibilities include conventional and single-use manufacturing suite design support, marketing support and evaluation/development of new upstream technologies and devices.

Duties include (but are not limited to):

• Developing processes and completing external (to and from client) and internal (to cGMP manufacturing department) technical transfers of upstream unit operations

• Reproducing and/or optimizing upstream processes at bench scale and effectively designing and executing scale up engineering or toxicology runs

• Transferring processes to cGMP manufacturing, manufacturing support

• Designing and execution of feed and media studies

• Designing and execution of harvest / clarification studies

• Evaluating and developing new upstream production technologies, particularly to support conversion of unit operations to single-use disposable systems

• Supporting the FTBM Business and marketing teams

1. Aware of and comply with the GEHC Quality Manual, Quality Management System, Quality Management Policy, Quality Goals, and applicable laws and regulations as they apply to this job type/position

2. Complete all planned Quality & Compliance training within the defined deadlines

3. Identify and report any quality or compliance concerns and take immediate corrective action as required

4. Champion continuous improvement activities by initiating process and product quality improvement initiatives

Qualifications/Requirements:

1. An B.S./M.S./Ph.D. degree in Biology, Biochemistry, BioManufacturing or Chemical Engineering

2. 3+ years relevant work experience

3. Good understanding of Upstream processing.

4. Experience developing, scaling and transferring the following upstream unit operations: thaw, expansion, production bioreactor, cell harvest & clarification.

5. Demonstrated ability to lead and influence in a collaborative, matrixed, and customer focused environment.
