Job Description: The Software and Services Group's Technical Computing team helps shape future platforms and software that is used by top enterprise and HPC customers to solve world's most puzzling problems. The team is responsible for engaging internally and externally to create a platform desired by our customers and help optimize software and tools on these platforms to perform best on Intel architecture.

The Intel Software and Services Group is seeking a motivated Senior Application Engineer to focus on performance engineering of Earth system models on current and next-generation Intel high-performance computing hardware. This is a full-time position with the Technical Computing Engineering team. In this role, you will work to redefine how the world develops weather, climate, and Earth system models and the future platforms that will power them. You will contribute to Earth system modeling workload optimization and benchmarking projects and identify/exploit opportunities to take advantage of unprecedented levels of concurrency; guide application, system software and tools developers toward Exascale performance while modeling and optimizing future platforms; and advance the state-of-the-art by implementing advanced applications hosted on novel computing platforms.
Qualifications:
This position requires a good understanding of numerical methods and scientific computing, parallel computing, high-performance computing architecture, and performance engineering, and the ability to work with complex HPC applications and libraries (usually written in Fortran and/or C/C ) that employ distributed and shared memory parallelism. Experience working in the area of computational weather, climate, or Earth system models (e.g. CESM, WRF, GEOS-5, MPAS) or other PDE-based simulations is a plus. Successful candidates must also possess strong verbal and written communication skills and the demonstrated ability to work in a demanding team-oriented environment, while also collaborating with customers in the external scientific computing and computational science communities.

The successful candidate will be expected to stay abreast of and contribute to new developments in state-of-the art approaches to parallel and high-performance scientific computing, performance engineering, and computational Earth science, and may contribute to the development of intellectual property.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor Degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a
relevant engineering discipline AND 7 years of experience in the
development, performance analysis, optimization and use of HPC, I/O and
data intensive applications;

OR;

- Masters Degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a
relevant engineering discipline AND 6 years of experience in the
development, performance analysis, optimization and use of HPC, I/O and
data intensive applications;

OR;

- PhD in Electrical/Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a relevant
engineering discipline AND 2 years of experience in the development,
performance analysis, optimization and use of HPC, I/O and data intensive
applications;

- Strong background on C/C programming language.

Preferred Qualifications:
- 5 years of post-PhD research experience in one or more of the areas
described above
- 4 years of experience with performance profiling
- In depth knowledge of computer architecture
- In depth knowledge of Operating system / memory management
