ROLE SUMMARY The Internal Medicine Research Unit (IMRU) is committed to finding cures for metabolic diseases. The Metabolism Group is part of IMRU and focused on identifying novel therapies for treating Nonalcoholic Steatohepatitis (NASH), cardiovascular disease and diabetes. Our goal is to build a research team of driven scientists focused on developing a deep mechanistic understanding of the metabolic pathways driving these diseases. The aim is to recruit a scientifically and technically strong research scientist proficient in in vivo and in vitro metabolic research models. ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES The successful candidate is expected to possess technical skills in the areas of rodent handling, dietary models of obesity, steatosis or liver disease and to have basic experimental design skills. Primary cell culture experience is desired but not necessary. A desire to understand the underlying causes of metabolic disease, hepatosteatosis and basic metabolic pathways involved is essential as we look for driven scientist motivated to have a deep understanding of the disease development. Successful candidates will be expected to: Perform in vivo experiments to address key mechanistic and pharmacological scientific questions. Have experience handling rodents. Some experience with primary hepatocyte cell culture is preferred but not necessary. Some experience with experimental design and the interpretation of results. Basic laboratory skills in the area of quantitative-PCR, molecular biology, western blotting, biochemical assays and tissue processing. Ability to present at both internal and external meetings QUALIFICATIONS Bachelors with a minimum of 3+ years of experience or a thesis based Master's Degree with 0-3 years of work experience. Possess strong written/verbal communication skills and ability to effectively collaborate with scientists. Drug discovery experience preferred but is not essential.
