Seeking a Senior Unix Systems administrator with broad hands on experience to support and maintain a Unix environment. This role will be located in Oracle's Cloud for Industry Deerfield, IL offices.

Oracle Cloud for Industry (OCI) is a specialized business unit focused solely on providing hosted SaaS and Cloud solutions aimed at adding value to our organizations Global Business Units (The GBUs). The OCI's charter is to provide a SaaS and Cloud-based infrastructure optimized to support our organization's developed SaaS and Cloud-based applications.

Candidate must be able to solve complex technical problems, work with a global team, handle escalations, proactively identify problem areas and provide root cause analysis and corrective actions.

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE:
Typically requires a minimum of 5-8 years of hands on Unix experience.

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
The candidate should have a strong working knowledge of:
* Unix (preferably Oracle Linux or Redhat Linux).
* Systems Administration (broad technical skill base, troubleshooting
skills)
* Experience in a data center environment
* Hardware troubleshooting and repair
* NFS, ZFS
* Backup strategy / solutions
* Software applications / installation
* Client-Server technologies (heterogeneous environment)
* Server Cluster configuration
* Monitoring Unix systems
* Virtualization technologies
* Programming / Scripting (Shell scripting, csh, ksh, Perl, etc.)

Additional Required Responsibilities:
* Participate in weekend (Saturday and Sunday) shifts.

The ideal candidate will also possess experience with:
* ITIL / ITSM
* Linux installation and administration
* Microsoft Windows, Windows Terminal Server (WTS) / Remote Desktop Services (RDS) and RDP
* Mac OS X client
* Samba on Linux
* Databases
* Oracle Virtual Machines (OVM)
* Customer relationship management
* Escalation management
* Mentoring and Leadership skills.
* Red Hat Satellite Server or Spacewalk

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE:
* Unix Certification (Linux / Solaris)
* Networking (Cisco, LAN, DNS, WAN, switches / routers)
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to share
knowledge.
* Strong organizational skills
* Leadership skills
* Generally able to make complex decisions independently and proactively

EDUCATION:
BS degree in Computer Science or equivalent (Technical Certifications, additional experience). Or the candidate must have the profile of a senior system administrator.

Qualifications:
Define, design, and implement network communications and solutions within a fast-paced, leading edge database/applications company.

Responsible for creating and implementing system enhancements that will improve the performance and reliablility of the system. Manage the load configurations of a central data communication processor and make recommendations for purchase or upgrade of data networks. Coordinate terminal orders and cable installation, network system planning, upgrading, monitoring, testing, and servicing. Approves action requests and specifies purchase requisitions. Negotiates and places orders with common carriers. May play a team leader role for developing System Administrators.

Leading contributor individually and as a team member, providing direction and mentoring to others. Work is non-routine and very complex, involving the application of advanced technical/business skills in area of specialization. Eight years of related experience in a medium to large network distributed and computing environment. BS in Computer Science or related field.
