The Senior Database Administrator will be responsible for maintaining the company's database systems (currently but not limited to MS SQL Server) including back-up, performance tuning, capacity planning, monitoring critical events, support and documentation.
  • Create and manage multiple databases and assist in capacity planning
  • Ensure all database servers are backed up in a way that meets the business's Recovery Point Objectives (RPO); Develop strategies and implement solutions for managing back-ups, restoration and replication
  • Monitor, maintain database systems and troubleshoot problems as they occur, including after-hours and weekends
  • Maintain data integrity and security (manage roles and permissions of database users)
  • Use tools like SQL Profiler for database tuning; Generate traces, execution plans, identify performance issues, deadlocks/contention and resolve them
  • Create and manage constraints and indexes
  • Support software developers with database operations including the development of complex SQL, tuning of DML and the creation of stored procedures
  • Deploy database change scripts provided by development teams or third party vendors following a formal change management process
  • Proactive housekeeping/archiving and shrinking of databases
  • Manage production, QA and development database environments
  • Create detailed documentation including diagrams of database infrastructure
  • Learn relevant business processes and understand the data flow, criticality and dependencies
  • Effectively coordinate and communicate with all the stakeholders (internal teams and clients)
  • Set up, maintain, upgrade and migrate database infrastructure for the company's operational and BI database needs

  • 8-15 years' experience in administering Microsoft SQL server databases (SQL Server 2005-2014)
  • Extensive experience writing T-SQL and stored procedures and query tuning on high transactional systems
  • Experienced in SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) and SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS)
  • Experienced in ETL (Extract-Transform-Load) development / data integration
  • Sound knowledge of RDBMS concepts, database architecture and SQL/T-SQL
  • Proficient with SQL server profiler or other market-leading tools for monitoring and troubleshooting database activity and performance. Quest Spotlight for SQL Server will be an advantage
  • Experience in SQL Server Clustering and HA technologies including mirroring, log shipping, Always-ON, failover cluster and various replication technologies
  • MCTIP certification and knowledge of other databases like MySQL, No SQL databases and In-memory databases will be an advantage
  • Ability to develop procedure documents and maintain detailed database related documents
  • Experience on hardware and database migrations on complex and mission critical environments
  • Knowledge of JD Edwards database architecture is a plus. Familiarity with ERP Query Characteristics and the use of Server Side API Cursors
  • Innovative approach to work, constantly looking for latest upgrades to the current platforms and more efficient and effective new technologies
To do a great job in this position, experience should include:
  • On-call troubleshooting experience with multiple production SQL Servers - You don't have to be the only DBA, but you should have been at some point the one person that the company would call if the SQL Server service stopped working
  • Finding DMV queries to answer questions about server-level performance
  • Experience reporting database environment statistics for capacity planning, performance and availability
  • Experience on SQL Server licensing model and database consolidation efforts

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in computer science or equivalent education and experience
