The Senior Director of Government and Public Affairs position will be responsible for developing and executing a global enterprise communication strategy and plan that drives Johnson & Johnson business objectives and reputation.
  • Proactively shaping global key policy issues 
  • Shape global industry and advocacy efforts through engagement and influence with trade associates
  • Build stakeholder trust and advocacy
  • Educate and activate employees across the world to influence policy 
  • Develop and execute a Public Affairs strategy that advances Johnson & Johnson’s Government Affairs & Policy Strategy and Communications/Corporate Reputation strategies worldwide
  • Leverage core Johnson & Johnson communications platforms to enhance reputational impact of GA&P programming
  • Provide strategic leadership in the creation and implementation of impactful communication programs to ensure positive and productive relationships with government officials and governmental bodies, community leaders, and influential organizations across the globe.
  • Expand the influence, relationships, and thought leadership of Johnson & Johnson through effective policy communication
  • Develop high visibility, high impact policy communications for senior Johnson & Johnson executives
  • Serve as a member of the GA&P Leadership Team
  • Develop the capabilities and processes needed to support key policy objectives
  • Provide communications counsel to J&J leaders on policies and positions and on the development, dissemination, and evaluation of those policies and procedures to enhance relations with external stakeholders and governmental bodies. 
  • Advise leaders on J&J’s policies and positions, and the development, dissemination, and evaluation of policies to enhance relations with governmental bodies worldwide. 
  • Identify emerging policy issues that may affect J&J and lead the development of a strategic and organized approach for advocating J&J’s position(s). 
  • Work closely with the government relations colleagues worldwide to identify emerging local, state, national, and regional legislation/regulations affecting J&J and develop a strategic, organized communications approach for advocating J&J’s position(s). 
  • Oversee writing, editing and production communications vehicles for the print and broadcast media and internal audiences to broaden awareness of J&J positions around the world and to equip J&J leadership and spokespeople with key messages and talking points.
  • Primary point of contact for coordinating Communications and GA&P strategies and programs
  • Develop global toolkits with situation analysis, key messages, talking points, and Q&A.
  • Incorporate messages into message maps, lobbying materials, Op-eds, speeches, press releases, and promotional materials
  • Ensure effective development, planning, execution and promotion of joint GA&P/Communications programs that advance corporate reputation, government stakeholder relationships and key policy goals.
  • Manage joint communications with outside stakeholder groups
  • This position is located in Washington D.C. and will require up to 25% travel. 

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree is required; MA in Public Policy or related field preferred.
  • A minimum of 15 years of experience in communications and public policy/public affairs
  • Demonstrates the ability to build public trust and enhance the reputation of the business and enterprise
  • A Deep business acumen and understanding of enterprise strategy is required
  • Demonstrated ability to craft compelling stories, with superior written, oral and visual communication abilities is required
  • A Global mindset is required
  • Experience working in a collaborative matrix environment is required
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically is required
  • Demonstrated ability to build deep, authentic relationships and strong influence with senior internal and external stakeholders
  • Deep understanding of digital and social platforms is required
