This position is required to research, install, test and document moderately complex database, business intelligence, data appliance and tool software and features as well as to conduct moderately complex problem prevention, identification, scope, and resolution specification and integration planning. This role will enable database engineering organization to effectively execute on the enterprise database strategy.


  • Identifies and trends recurring database and business intelligence problems and implements permanent solutions for the scope.
  • Handles communications with technical partners outside of the database group.
  • Arrives at, tests, and documents database standards and best practices. Operationalizes instructions and processes for DB support group.
  • Performs advanced function- and compatibility- tests new DBMS and tool releases and fixes. Tests to ensure database software compatibility with new hardware, operating systems, and tools.
  • Partners with application and production DBAs and customers to solve problems. Installs and configures database administration and management tools.


  • 7 years or more experience with DB2 LUW – architecture, design, performance tuning, high availability, replication solutions, clustering solutions, BLU, DPF, and pureScale
  • EMC product suite for backup like Networker and Avamar
  • Infosphere Guardium – database security
  • Solid experience in engineering support of continuously available and high performing database environments
  • Solid communication skills, ability to build effective partnerships with peer groups, engineering teams, management, etc.
  • Experience with Big Data technologies
  • Prefer knowledge of Cloud based solution architectures
  • BA / BS degree preferred, advanced degree a plus
