Ethicon, Inc., a member of the Johnson & Johnson's Family of Companies, is recruiting for a Senior Facilities Engineer located in Cornelia, GA.


The Ethicon Surgical Care business offers a broad range of products, platforms and technologies including sutures, surgical staplers, clip appliers, trocars and synthetic mesh devices that are used in a wide variety of minimally invasive and open surgical procedures. Specialties include support for treatment of colorectal and thoracic conditions, women’s health conditions, hernias, cancer and obesity. The Ethicon Surgical Care business combines products and services of two market-leading legacy companies, both with long histories of medical innovation.


The Senior Facilities Engineer will be responsible for micro region Facilities Management compliance program including the following:  Support for Facilities/Utilities related projects, maintenance activities supporting cGMP systems and areas (CMMS-Maximo/CME rooms, etc.), 6S implementation, BOP (Building Ownership Process) implementation, Facilities & Equipment Change Control System, record retention of Facilities auditable generated documentation, support for internal and external audits, and assurance that actions related to audit findings and recommendations are closed properly. The Senior Facilities Engineer will partner with site base quality and compliance resources to lead the commissioning and qualification activities for facilities equipment/processes in the GA micro-region. 

Other key responsibilities include:
  • Responsible for compliance of Facilities contracted services including: Security, Hospitality/Cafeteria, Housekeeping, Pest Control, Building & Grounds, Integrated Parts Supplier, and other facilities related services.
  • Supports Supplier Relationship Management activities for facilities contracted services including: Landscaping, Security, Hospitality/Cafeteria, Housekeeping, Pest Control, Nitrogen Generation, space planning, PA & AV systems, and other contracted facilities related services.
  • Responsible for the execution and compliance of the Building Ownership Process (BOP) at all sites.
  • Responsible for other facilities and services related to operations including: onsite storage, support for the coordination of special events and all other initiatives from the site(s) leadership team(s).
  • Prepares, revises and submits change control documentation in the site’s compliance based systems (e.g. ADAPTIV) for all facilities modifications, as required.
  • Ensures completion of any NCR’s/IA/CAPA related activities assigned to facilities organization as per pre-established procedures and regulatory requirements (QSR, ISO).
  • Identifies and participates in continuous improvement projects & programs to achieve work simplification, eliminate non-value added activities, and cost reduction.
  • Responsible for commissioning & qualification efforts for facilities equipment and processes including centralization of facilities drawings, systems operational manuals and maintaining site’s facilities Validation Master Program (VMP).
  • Responsible for oversight of capital improvements focused on facility services work streams and other cost improvement projects, including building exteriors, grounds, and parking areas.
  • Partner with EHS&S for all the activities related to facilities site compliance, including IsNet, IOSS, and Good Saves program, including deployment of Safety policies and attending the General Safety Board/Committee meetings.
  • Participates in IOSS program as lead for the Contractor Management and Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO) programs.
  • Responsible for all facilities owned procedures to ensure continuous compliance with Ethicon, J&J, regulatory requirements
  • Ensures departmental compliance with all related regulatory agencies, Ethicon, and JNJ requirements, including:  local county enforcement & compliance, Department of Health, Building Code, Fire Code, Elevator Inspections, Center of Excellence (COE), Enterprise Facilities Management (EFM), etc.
  • Develops and executes internal assessment program to proactively assess the readiness of the facilities compliance based systems throughout the micro region, as assigned.
  • Participates actively within local and regional quality/compliance teams and supports the North American Facilities compliance program, across the regional portfolio, including training for all facilities staff as required.
  • Supports all facilities related internal & external audit activities including collaborating with internal resources and 3 party contractors to support audit, participating in back room activities to support audit and completing required follow up and communications with regulatory bodies and J&J Corporate management.
  • Responsible for the generation and reporting of facilities maintenance metrics via CMMS system.
  • Reviews, analyzes data of compliance trends with the required departments. Leads investigations of the negative trends and implements solutions or changes to avoid reoccurrence.  

  • Bachelor of Science Degree is required.  Focus in Engineering is preferred.
  • At least four (4) years of related work experience is required.  Experience in Pharmaceutical, Medical Device or Consumer manufacturing is preferred.
  • Experience with quality systems and compliance in a regulated industry, healthcare is preferred.  
  • Basic understanding & interaction with contracted personnel is required; Contractor management experience is preferred.
  • Mechanical & electrical maintenance experience is preferred.
  • Experience with a CMMS system is preferred.
  • Environmental and safety policies and guidelines knowledge is preferred.
  • Intermediate level computer & database management skills are required.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal relation skills are required.
  • Statistical and analytical problem solving is preferred.
  • Capable of reading & reviewing technical, design and construction plans & drawings is preferred.
  • Experience with space planning, energy management systems, project management, specifications & bids, and identification of new technologies is preferred.
  • Technical knowledge of facilities management or related fields is preferred.
  • Compliance Knowledge (GMP, EHS, and other regulatory standards/regulations) is preferred.
  • Knowledge in Maintenance and construction best practices is preferred.
  • This position is located in Cornelia, GA and will require up to 10% of travel.
  • Must be willing and able to work outside of normal business hours as needed, which may require nights and/or weekends in support of emergencies, audits, shut-down’s, etc.
