ETP Business Summary

The Emerging Technologies and Products (ETP) group in the Chief Technology Office (CTO) is the primary group developing and partnering to develop the new products and disruptive technologies in new markets within Applied Materials. This "start-up" environment within a large corporation primarily starts in the ideation phase with only a small portion making it to incubation with hopes of eventually commercializing. Additionally, some ideas start within ETP in our Applied Ventures group who invests in start-up companies with a potential to acquire or develop a strategic partnership. Each one of these projects are like small start-up companies within ETP which need a "CFO" to help manage by forecasting, developing business cases, challenging assumptions, and bringing an overall general manager view.

Job Summary
The ETP Senior Financial Analyst Business Partner (SFA) reports to the ETP/CTO Senior Finance Manager. The SFA will be the dedicated partner ("program expert") for some of the project teams: general product managers, New Business Development (NBD), and technical expertise team members to forecast spend, develop business cases, challenge assumptions, and offer guidance, bringing an overall general manager/finance perspective to discussions. The SFA will also partner with our Finance Center of Excellence (COE) spending analyst to review, monitor and report spending for financial forecasts.

Major Responsibilities
  • Program expert for project teams you support
  • Attend and prepare for staff meetings and financial reviews
  • Assist and validate ROI components (i.e. NPV, PB, Revenue, Expenses etc.) and ensure validation/synching of information to all reports
  • Leads the budgeting and forecasting processes and partners with COE to review, monitor and report spending for financial forecasts
  • Support/attend monthly Executive financial reviews
  • Partner with project teams to provide business context to financial reports
  • Liaison between the business partner and finance
  • Focused on identifying and helping to drive cost efficiency, growth opportunities, and process improvements along with cost reallocation initiatives
  • Reviews historical performance and helps identify areas of future focus
  • Reinforces compliance and controls in all responsibilities
  • Provides centralized insight between the various business partners to facilitate communication and reduce duplication of funding and efforts
  • Assist in performing portfolio analysis on existing investment portfolio
  • Ad hoc reporting, analysis and special projects as requested by business partners and/or finance manager

Qualifications:
Key Qualifications

  • MBA strongly preferred
  • Proven competencies in communications, presentations, financial analysis and related decision-making, problem solving, etc.
  • Experience with financial modeling including NPV, ROI and Monte Carlo analyses
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, teaming skills, and customer relationship skills
  • Deep knowledge of financial analysis, with a preference for knowledge relative to the business segment supported
  • Strong Accounting/Finance skills and curiosity and excitement in the high tech business environment
  • Demonstrated PC skills, knowledge of software packages, and financial modeling expertise using Excel
  • Solid influencing skills
  • Strong desire to learn and grow your career with the organization
