Hardware Engineer, Oracle Public Cloud

Oracle's Cloud Infrastructure team is building new Infrastructure-as-a-Service technologies that operate at high scale in a broadly distributed multi-tenant cloud environment. Our customers run their businesses on our cloud, and our mission is to provide them with best in class compute, storage, networking, database, security, and an ever expanding set of foundational cloud-based services.
Our team is responsible for supporting the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure service teams and regions via the introduction of new hardware from design stage through launch footprint delivery to the Oracle Data Centers. The team is responsible for the delivery of all test hardware (servers, racks and networking equipment) as well as the initial launch footprint required for each service and region.
As a Hardware Engineer, you will have a chance to work with some of the best minds in the industry to define and implement the hardware that enables our service teams to build the best-in-class service for our cloud customers. You will be the hardware guru that negotiates with Oracle hardware team to influence the future Oracle hardware direction to meet our cloud requirements. You will be the expert that guides the service team to choose the optimal hardware that meets the requirements while reducing the cost. You will also work closely with our supply chain team and manufacturing partners to ensure quality and on-time hardware delivery, and continuously raise the bar. You are also highly motivated, dedicated and self-starter that is not afraid of exploring the unknown and help creating process and procedures. You will utilize a broad skillset to implement designs and participate in all phases of product development including:
• Initial concept and platform architecture
• Component selection
• Design implementation (schematic design, physical layout)
• Manufacturing, assembly, test
• Perform lab validation
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical/Hardware Engineering or related field, with 8 years of relevant experience
• Experience with Computer Architecture/Systems, component design/qualifaction
• Highly motivated, self starter with maturity, judgment, negotiation/influence skills, analytical skills, and leadership skills
• Excellent organizational, verbal and written communication skills
• Experience in adapting hardware for international deployment is a big plus.
• Experience working with supply chain is a big plus
The preferred location for this position is the Oracle Cloud Dev Centers in Seattle, Washington.
Evaluates reliability of materials, properties and techniques used in production; plans, designs and develops electronic parts, components, integrated circuitry, mechanical systems, equipment and packaging, optical systems and/or DSP systems.
Responsible for designing, developing, modifying and evaluating electronic, electro-mechanical or mechanical components, assemblies or integrated circuitry for hardware systems for the external market. Includes new design, as well as modification activities that results in significant product enhancement. Activities encompass design, analysis, testing and process development using engineering principles and methods. Technical disciplines may include electrical and logical design of printed circuit boards or integrated circuits; mechanical design of electronics enclosures or integrated circuit packaging; and embedded software/firmware design.
Work is non-routine and very complex, involving the application of advanced technical/business skills in area of specialization. Leading contributor individually and as a team member, providing direction and mentoring to others. BS or MS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. 7 years of engineering or related experience.
