OPCx (On-Premises Cloud) Senior Manager, Operating System Configuration Management is responsible for Operating System lifecycle management and configuration management of workloads running in the Software Defined Datacenters across J&J. This is a leader role with team members reporting to this role from across the globe. This individual will have the overall ownership of releasing new Linux and Windows operating systems, security configuration and hotfix and vulnerability management using automated configuration management tools Chef. Additionally, this individual will partner with platform teams such as database and SAP to automate and manage platform specific OS related configurations. This individual will own the development of automation capabilities using Chef. The individual will design, implement and support configuration management blueprints to support enterprise technology platforms. The individual will also be partner with multiple infrastructure tools owners such as ServiceNow, VMware’s vRealize, SCOM, SCCM, Netcool, etc. and drive efficiency in OS lifecycle management. Additionally, this individual will have the responsibility of working with OPCx teams to design technical POD architecture and manage OS related compatibilities at the physical and virtual layers. This individual will also be responsible for managing and releasing physical builds for Linux operating systems to support OPCx Net Backup Infrastructure. 

 

Senior Manager, Operating System Configuration Management will plan and release automation capabilities using agile/scrum methodology and will leverage a team of on-shore and off-shore engineers and developers. In addition, the senior manager should have hands on experience in continuous integration and continuous delivery technologies using Git/ Stash, Jenkins, Maven, Java, JavaScript, Python, Ruby and CHEF. 

 

Key responsibilities of this role include:

  • Configuration management of Redhat Linux and Microsoft Windows Server
  • Release new operating system build
  • Collaborate with OPCx and platform team to enable automation
  • Develop roadmaps and strategy for OS and automation capabilities
  • Manage a team of talented individuals
  • Hands-on development using test-driven development methodology
  • Hands-on development and support of Software Configuration Management tools like CHEF
  • Create, groom, develop and review stories in a continuous delivery model – Using tools like JIRA
  • Create technical designs and architectures to use technology to deliver high-level requirements
  • Contribute and review code repositories using source control (GIT/BitBucket)
  • Create, review and approve documentation supporting an SDLC (Software development Lifecycle) process
  • Create develop, document and execute test cases in quality environments
  • Support release management activities for new code deployments into quality and production environments.
  • Follow an ITIL framework to maintain a compliant and qualified environment

Qualifications
  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree is required
  • 8+ year’ experience managing large IT projects is required  
  • 5+ experience in Microsoft Windows Server or Redhat Linux Engineering and Administration is required
  • 2+ years’ managing people is preferred
  • 2+ years’ experience using CHEF, Puppet, Ansible, etc to release and maintain enterprise software platforms is required
  • Experience in GIT, Jenkins, Java, JavaScript, Python, Ruby, PowerShell, BASH languages is preferred
  • Strong technical background and experience in virtualization is preferred
  • Experience in working in a DevOps or Scrum methodology is preferred
  • 2+ year experience using VMware virtualization and automation product suite including vSphere, vRealize automation and vRealize Orchestrator is preferred
  • Independent judgment and technical problem solving, decision-making strength is preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills are preferred
  • Self-starter with strong teamwork abilities and customer service skills is preferred
  • Prior experience in supporting global operations preferred and following enterprise level process frameworks required. 
  • This position requires approximately 20% international and domestic travel
