The Operations Manager will have a team of direct reports responsible for operating and supporting the cloud infrastructure for Virtustream's Cloud Platform. The Operations team is responsible for an IaaS offering ensuring SLA's are proactively managed to avert issues and avoidable problems affecting service. This position manages the day-to-day operations for incident management, service requests, provisioning requests, as well as maintaining an accurate account of available resources for capacity management.
The individual in this position must be technically knowledgeable and have a deep understanding of multiple technologies to include, but not limited to: Compute, virtualization, storage, and system management\administration. The individual will need to utilize managerial and prioritization skills to ensure daily requirements are met while ensuring projects are delivered on time. The Operations Manager will maintain a focus on client satisfaction with clients both internal and external to the organization. They will understand the importance of scoping and sizing projects accurately and putting in place the appropriate timelines for completion.  This individual will continue to help grow and mature an organization by applying policies, procedures, best practices and other ITIL methodologies.
Principal Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and direction to direct reports deliver the in-scope services according to contractual obligations
  • Proactive management, maintenance and monitoring of services to ensure SLAs are reliable and available 
  • Direct team management focusing on Compute, System Virtualization, Storage and backup  technologies
  • Develop, drive and report on the key performance metrics of the operations organization
  • Responsible for communicating risks, outages, and changes that may affect the uptime of Virtustream's clients to both internal peer groups and leadership within the Cloud Platform Team
  • Constantly evaluate operating procedures looking for methods to improve efficiency, identify and mitigate defects in operating procedures.
  • Ensure that the infrastructure's operating procedures meet or exceed current standards
  • Participate and coordinate Customer Failover/DR planning and testing support
  • Responsible for Operational Governance including operational reporting and analysis
  • Work with Customer for process integration, issue resolution, managing risks and  provide recommendations for Customer to achieve optimal results from solutions
  • Ensure technical run documentation is accurate and current


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field or equivalent education and/or experience
  • Industry certifications preferred (any technology field)


Required Skills:

  • Deep knowledge of Cisco UCS configurations and best practices
  • Deep knowledge of VMware vSphere 5.5 and 6.0
  • Proven experience acting as an Incident Commander
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and tasks in a high stress environment
  • Ability to coordinate cross-functional work teams toward task completion
  • Scripting/configuration management experience with platforms such as Salt/Chef/Puppet/Ansible
  • Team player with strong attention to detail
  • Process oriented with strong organization skills
  • Ability to identify, prioritize and escalate issues as needed

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with management SNMP monitoring systems
  • Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity experience a plus
  • Strong human relations skills to select, develop, mentor, discipline and reward employees
  • Deep analytical and problem solving skills
  • Strong interpersonal and presentation skills for interacting with team members and clients
  • Strong communication skills
  • Demonstrated organization and time management skills
