Senior Principal Lead UX Designer
Hopkinton , Massachusetts
September 10, 2017

**Job Description:** Our Mid-Range Storage Division is looking to bring in a principal level product designer with 10-15 years of software product design experience (ideally on enterprise/technical products) to lead the design of the products and services provided by this business unit. You’ll be working with a team of UX researchers and product designers, and will also be leading this UX team from a creative standpoint as one of the most senior members. The ideal candidate can provide hands-on execution while also evangelizing design within the business, helping product and engineering stakeholders make business requests design-actionable, and ensuring that the team is delivering high-quality user experiences under tight constraints. A big-picture, service-design oriented mindset is also valuable (this division builds and ships hardware and software products).

The Role

+ (30%) “Design” - Hands-on product design (UI/UX) – the ideal candidate can provide all levels of design fidelity from sketches through visual design (note: a broad skillset is favored over exceptional visual design skills, however wire framing is insufficient) + (40%) “Consulting” - Lead design discovery sessions, facilitate business/design strategy discussions, conduct needs analysis, be a “problem finder,” prioritizing design work, and building consensus with business and engineering stakeholders (who may have varying levels of experience working with product designers) + (30%) “Leadership” - Providing team leadership/oversight (this isn’t a management position, but you will be the creative lead for this business unit’s design team)

The Requirements

+ 10-15 years as a product (UX/UI) designer, with 5+ years leading the design of technical or enterprise business applications + An amazing portfolio that demonstrates your expertise and process + Ability to balance going to market with usability, UX, and other concerns + Working knowledge of front-end technologies, i.e. HTML5, CSS, JavaScript and the ability to drive success in an engineering-driven organization (this is not an engineering position, but technical knowledge is very helpful) + Ability to distill complex or vague requests into clear, concise, actionable design problems on which the team can execute successfully

+ Demonstrated expertise designing successful technical software products + Experience leading the design for a 1.0 product or service (MVP mindset) + Data visualization & analytics knowledge + BS or BA degree in CS, Design, Human Factors, Psychology or related field
