Senior Principle Systems Engineer

Job Function: Norton/Cloud Platform Engineering

1) Principle Duties
  • Provide Engineering support to optimize internal processes and services
  • Act as an escalation point for Tier 1/2 support by troubleshooting and resolving issues related to web server problems, Linux OS based issues, and various application problems
  • Implement open source applications to solve technical/process needs
  • Identification/automation of existing manual processes enabling more efficient platform management & recovery
  • Participate in an on call rotation to provide night and weekend escalation support.
  • Create system/application monitors and associated auto remediation scripts
  • Develop Monitoring solution for applications, custom plugins/checks, continually upgrade coverage terms
  • Work closely with the Developers/QA team to ensure efficiency on Product Releases
  • Oversee/ participate in administering and performance-tune Linux Systems (primarily CentOS), Apache, MySQL, Python, DB, Network latency, etc.
  • Heavy hands on involvement contributing in scripting/automation, cloud-based web server farms
  • Deploy a fully automated build/package/verify/push cycle for all principal components

2) Required Skills
  • Experience in application support with technologies including Apache, Nginx, MySQL, PHP, GIT, and Ruby
  • IT Infrastructure design and support experience with services such as DNS, NTP, DHCP, and SMTP
  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of virtualization technologies. This should include system design experience, as well as hands on experience with securing, optimizing performance, and troubleshooting complex issues.
  • Strong Linux background with demonstrated experience creating shell scripts, and troubleshooting complex system issues
  • Demonstrated experience with Puppet, Splunk, Atlassian product suite, Zabbix, Python, ActiveMQ, Couchbase and NoSQL technologies
  • A firm understanding of network technologies including load balancer and routing concepts
  • Solid understanding of C/C++ and Operating System (Windows) basic IO • API's, SDKs to develop custom solutions
  • Experience with methodologies like ITIL, Agile, etc.
  • Leadership and Hand-on Management skills
  • 5+ years in a systems engineering role with current hands on experience designing and implementing open source solutions to address business/technical/process needs.
  • Contribution and Experience with OpenStack is a plus

3) Preferred Skills
  • Demonstrated experience with Puppet, Zabbix, Python, Couchbase, and ActiveMQ
  • A firm understanding of network technologies including load balancer and routing concepts
  • Experience with Splunk, the Atlassian product suite, and NoSQL technologies
  • 5+ years in technical development role with current hands on experience working with Enterprise Products, API's, SDKs to develop custom solutions

  • 5+ years of industry experience in infrastructure or system engineering group 3+ years of Sr. Engineer experience with responsibilities in system design BS/MS in Computer Science or equivalent
