The Product Development Application team is chartered with the end-to-end ownership (from concept, development, validation through to commercial launch) of our Mobile Application portfolio: App Ad Publishing Platform, Indycar Mobile, Dynamic Preload platform, Location Based applications like VZ Navigator, MapQuest and Parental control products like Name ID Services and Music/RBT.
Gather marketing requirements and translate them into an architecture that delivers a superior customer experience.
Develop application or components of it, where applicable, to demonstrate proof of concept involving new technology.
Design and architect products that will consider our network required service availability (which includes rigorous failover, redundancy, security audits and data backup considerations).
Coordinate the deployment, testing and acceptance of all architecture related to his/her products in the Verizon Wireless footprint.
Assess and manage vendors, keep current on industry standards, standard changes as well as be able to make technical recommendations (subject matter expert).
Provide focus on the customer Out-Of-Box experience and network reliability for all new products as well as modifications to existing products.
Develop application prototype on Android platforms to demonstrate and validate new technology.
Develop new application and services as well as enhancements to existing products and services.
Author design documents, test plans, and define product performance KPIs.
Interface with Product Line Marketing (PLM) and other departments to gain alignment on design and implementation objectives.
Implementation management includes ordering, shipping, build management, turn-up, testing, and acceptance.
Deploy existing products onto new devices (aka: “device porting and compliance”).
Plan strategic technology roadmap for new and existing products as it relates to porting activities.
Testing and acceptance for all products/services being ported.
Collaborate with Customer care and vendor on troubleshooting and resolution of product care calls.
Routine Quality Assessment (QA for assigned products and services).
Collaborate with Product sponsors for commercial launch.
Demonstrate and present product specifics to senior management.
Industry technology assessments as well as standards updates.
A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
Six or more years of relevant work experience.
Wireless telecommunications industry experience with new service development and product development or equivalent.
Proven experience in mobile application development.
Development and validation experience of mobile application, performance testing, impact on device variables including battery and data usage.
Ideally you’ll also have:
A Master’s degree.
Knowledge on features introduced in various versions of mobile operating systems, wireless consumer trends to apply to current product line.
Experience with third party libraries, APIs and web technologies.
Background in video streaming.
Detail knowledge of client/server and/or distributed computing architecture, router-based networks utilizing TCP/IP or OSI protocols (TCP, SSL, HTTP, LDAP, SOAP).
Strong verbal and written communication skills (Project Management background is a plus).
Strong technical (e.g., software systems design) and analytical skills.
Ability to work independently in an unstructured environment.
