PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION
The Senior Proposal Development Manager (Senior PDM) supports the Energy Solutions group (Energy Efficiency; Solar Sales; Distributed Generation & Energy Assets) in the preparation and delivery of all customer facing documents. In essence, the Senior DDM is a project coordinator for sales and engineering efforts and drives these documents to delivery.
The Senior PDM works directly with and supports the Project Development and Business Development staff to prepare these documents, which include primarily sales documents (such as letters, presentations, and initial solicitations) to engineering documents (such as Preliminary Analyses, Investment Grade Audits, RFP/RFQ responses, etc.).
Reporting to the Document Development Department Supervisor, the Senior PDM provides resource and timeline coordination and oversight to the process of planning, developing, structuring, producing, packaging, and delivering these documents.
The Senior PDM must be extremely well organized, balancing different job responsibilities amidst multiple moving deadlines and changing priorities. Sound organization and an unfailing attention to detail – in addition to a robust creative sensibility – will be essential to keeping projects (both customer facing and internal) on track and moving forward.
The Senior PDM must have the drive to anticipate and deftly address issues as they occur and the personal communication and management skills necessary to muster resources from across the organization to meet tight deadlines.
The Senior PDM also works closely with affiliated departments, such as Legal, Transaction Structuring, Project Management, and Performance Assurance, to provide best-in-class support to the Business Development and Project Development teams, and to develop and maintain standard “products” (i.e., standard building blocks that can be re-used easily in customer documents) to improve document creation-efficiency.
Given the highly competitive nature of the Retail Energy business, the Senior PDM is expected to drive innovation in the group’s work product and efficiency in its processes to increase the likelihood of being awarded prospective transactions that are essential to meeting the business’s sales goals. This includes the products mentioned above, as well as brainstorming and implementing new solutions (such as customer placemats, new graphics or figures, creative presentation of information, etc.) that bring additional value to documents.
The Senior PDM will coordinate internal communications within the project team and also with relevant functional groups across Exelon to insure consistency and accuracy of information, messaging, and branding.
Primary Position Responsibilities
- Customer facing documents:
o Preparation, development, review, management, and delivery of high-impact sales and engineering documents to support sales/engineering/construction/performance assurance departments within the Energy Solutions vertical
o Directly manages the overall proposal creation from start to finish, ensuring all requirements of the customer requests for proposal are met
o Responsible for timeliness, compliance and overall quality of all proposals delivered
o Plans and coordinates proposal resources (people, pricing, and schedule) with Business Development Manager and appropriate individuals and departments
o Directs various phases of the proposal preparation process
o Manages multiple projects/proposals simultaneously in order to meet deadlines
o Reviews and approves all outgoing documents to ensure final product accuracy, validity, and consistency with business standards and corporate guidelines
o Prepares proposals for final packaging and delivery
- Internal: Product Management
o Develops and maintains standard document “products” and best-practices to improve the overall efficiency and accuracy of the Document Development group, including: resumes, project references, corporate info/qualifications
o Updates, and maintains Proposal Library (RFP365), which includes “products” as mentioned above as well as completed proposals and other relevant information, and does so by working with appropriate stakeholders and subject matter experts in the sales/engineering/construction/performance assurance/legal/transaction structuring departments
- Internal: Communication, Coordination, and Process and Product Improvement
o Solicits and implements results from feedback from team members and customers to continuously improve productized materials
o Leads trainings and communications to internal customers with regards to products, best practices, and changes in processes
o Constantly looks for ways to improve team efficiency and processes; reaches out to other departments within Energy Solutions as well as the Constellation affiliate family to improve sales efforts and provide outside-the-box perspective
- BA/BS degree in English, Business Administration, Marketing, Communications, or related field and/or the combination of equivalent experience and education.
- Minimum 7 years relevant experience in proposal coordination/management, or related capacity in energy or engineering environment
- High-level proficiency with Windows environment, including navigating shared network drives
- High-level proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat
