Our Discovery Sciences Organization at the Spring House site is looking for a motivated, detail-oriented and collaborative (Senior) Scientist - Compound Logistics to join our Global team. He/she will lead the Compound Logistics team in Spring House and will have overall responsibility for this group to effectively support the needs of the local drug discovery teams and the global HTS team. The successful candidate will provide expertise in automation and will be expected to drive the practical application of new CL approaches in compound processing and logistics. This role involves maintaining an awareness of external developments to identify improvements that can be applied to advance CL. This position requires implementing, operating, maintaining and troubleshooting all automation equipment, including their respective software applications, used for solubilization, sample storage and all plate preparation processes. He/she is expected to maintain a strong laboratory presence and work under strict deadlines and to handle the day to day tasks and customer services with ease by efficiently prioritizing assigned daily workload and using time productively. The individual will need to demonstrate commitment to quality and will collaborate with other team members to maintain consistent practices and standards for compound sample handling operations. The new team member should show commitment to working together with other CL teams across different sites and countries and he/she will be the main contact person for the HTS screening team in Spring House.


One of the key duties is to collaborate and work closely with other discovery teams, such as biology, chemistry and CL teams in La Jolla and Beerse, assuring that all compounds are well managed and controlled. Taking initiatives, talking to other stakeholders as well as interfacing with CROs where necessary is critically important. The candidate should be an effective communicator who can demonstrate an ability to manage tasks even when not all systems are running smoothly, and an ability to turn difficulties into process improvement(s). He/she possesses a willingness to perform additional work as assigned by management and as part of the individual’s development plan. The successful candidate will lead the Compound Logistics team in Spring House. S/he will report to the Global Head Compound Logistics. This individual will have overall responsibility for the group to effectively support the needs of the local drug discovery teams. The new team leader should show commitment to working together with other CL teams across different sites and countries. S/he will engage with others across the different sites to find effective solutions and resolve conflicts. Efficient interactions and communications, sharing ideas, technologies and talent will be part of the daily job.

  • A minimum of a B.S. degree in Chemistry or related field is required.
  • A minimum of seven years of experience in a compound management or automation group is required.
  • The successful candidate should have thorough hands-on knowledge of activities related to many compound management processes, with a practical understanding of inventory management, solution production, quality control methodology, logistics management and service oriented practices.  is required.
  •  Good theoretical understanding of compound properties relevant to the maintenance of a quality collection is preferred.
  • Strong skills in automation and robotics are required.
  • Direct expertise and working experience in process design, automated sample management, liquid handling, integrated data handling, and informatics integration is required.
  • Proven skills in developing and implementing efficient workflow processes, and success in leading teams is required.
  • Success in working with multiple customer groups to deliver solutions enabling them to achieve their goals is required. Project management experience is a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to responsibly complete daily tasks on time are required.
  • The ability to work well within a team is required.
  • The ability to be responsive to research partners and to deliver in a collaborative, high performance environment is required.
  • The successful candidate should demonstrate significant management and leadership skills, be self-motivated, well-organized, and be able to think strategically. Leadership experience in successfully building a team around a common vision and managing change is required.
