The Process Development and Engineering department is seeking a highly motivated scientist to develop efficient and robust processes development in support of Merck's expanding Biologics pipeline. The talented individual will be responsible for applying sound biology understanding and engineering principles to develop, optimize, and scale-up next-generation downstream processes for clinical and commercial manufacture. Candidates preferred with protein chemistry background and hands on experience with protein purification. The individual will work closely with discovery teams, upstream process development teams, clinical manufacturing sites and commercialization teams. The candidate will work in a highly inter-disciplinary environment (analytical, drug product formulation regulatory and quality) and provide technical oversight to junior colleague.


Qualifications:
Education:

A Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering, Cell Biology or Biochemistry with a minimum of seven (7) years of experience OR a Master's Degree in Chemical Engineering, Cell Biology or Biochemistry with a minimum of four (4) years of experience, OR a PhD in Chemical Engineering, Cell Biology, Biochemistry or equivalent biological/engineering sciences.

Required:
• Protein chemistry and/or biochemical engineering principles.

Preferred:
• Knowledge of downstream purification processing.
• Experience with chromatography.
• Knowledge of biophysical and biochemical properties of proteins.
