ROLE SUMMARY Recent advances in functional genomics technologies have led to unprecedented opportunities to deepen our understanding of disease biology, screen for new drug targets, and validate candidate targets arising from genetic association and other studies. As integral part of Pfizer Worldwide Research and Development our Functional Genomics group works to establish and apply experimental tools including screens for examining gene function, in order to bring the best targets into the Oncology Research Unit's portfolio and deepen our knowledge of targets under development. We are seeking a highly motivated and pro-active cancer biologist or immunologist, with expertise in flow cytometry and gene modulation technologies, to contribute to the success of the Functional Genomics laboratory in Pearl River, NY. This is an exciting opportunity to apply cutting-edge methods and contribute with our team to the target portfolio of one of the world's leading developers of novel therapeutics. ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES • Independent, careful planning, execution, trouble-shooting, data analysis and summary of day- to multi-week-long experiments to test the functional consequences of genetic variants and pharmacologic agents in cell-based model systems, using co-culture systems and cell engineering methods that include lenti-/retroviral transduction and CRISPR-based gene editing technologies. • Perform cutting-edge genomic and phenotypic CRISPR-based screens to identify new targets in immuno-oncology using advanced murine and human cell culture and transplantation systems. • Develop and evaluate new approaches and pro-actively introduce improvements to the offerings of the Functional Genomics group. • Work and communicate closely with other Pearl River colleagues and support interaction with our Oncology Research Unit partner sites in San Diego (La Jolla) and the Bay Area (South San Francisco). • Present research results and discuss methods at weekly/monthly group meetings. QUALIFICATIONS • Recent Ph.D. degree in immunology, cancer cell biology, or related field with substantial experience in multi-color flow cytometry required. Experience in cell sorting, functional genomic screens, and CRISPR-based gene editing or RNA interference technologies of advantage. • 1-2 years of laboratory experience and continuous scientific curiosity in an industrial or academic setting, preferably in an immunology or cancer immunobiology group. • Demonstrated expertise with antibiotic-free isolation, culture, and genetic manipulation of primary immune cells for advanced assays including mixed-cell in vitro systems and multifactorial readouts, e.g., phenotypic changes, proliferation, activation, target cell killing and production of soluble factors. Proficiency in a variety of molecular biology methods, including cloning, expression analysis, and next-generation DNA/RNA sequencing. • Track record of substantial contributions to successful research projects. Experience with in vivo transplantation systems, liquid handling, and/or high content imaging a plus. • Ability to effectively and positively interact and collaborate with other scientists, both within the group and together with other groups; excellent communication and interpersonal skills essential.
