You may have heard that static analysis tools find bugs. Imagine putting those tools into the hands of thousands of developers, working on a large codebase – how about maybe one of the largest codebases on earth, under very active development, shipping every six months, running on hundreds of millions of devices. How about trying to continuously improve the security and reliability of that codebase, across components that have been part of this codebase for decades, and new components being added. Are you still with me? Then you may realize the powerful force multiplier that lies in how well static analysis tools are integrated with the engineering system and with developer workflows. We are looking for an engineering lead interested in the challenge of doing that at the scale of Windows 10!
Our diverse team is part of the Engineering System in the Windows and Devices Group. We concern ourselves with the programming languages and tools, which are constantly evolving, and which get a lot of engagement from our customers. We believe that programming languages and tools have a significant impact on developer productivity and code quality. We strive to provide powerful tools, while making those tools easy to use safely. As engineers providing services to engineers, we own the end-to-end, from customer scenarios to incremental delivery using an agile approach.
You will lead a small DevOps team to:
• Engage directly with your customers – engineers like you
• Work cross-organizationally with partners, especially the Visual C++ team
• Empower your customers to use and author static analysis checkers
• Run a reliable service that monitors compliance criteria important to our business
• A degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
• 6+ years of software design and development experience.
• Experience with large C++ codebases and/or programming language implementation.
• Leadership skills that make small engineering teams execute at high standards.
