The Security Department at IBM's Thomas J. Watson Research Center in Yorktown Heights, NY, is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join us in tackling the new IBM Research's Security Research Agenda.
The mission of the Security Department is to conduct fundamental and applied research in Security, Privacy and Cryptography. We focus on building new and innovative security technologies in research areas such as: Cybersecurity Analytics, Security Risk Management, Information Security, Web 2.0 Security, Next Generation Security Architectures, Trusted Computing, Virtualized Environments, Cryptography, Embedded System Security, Mobile Security and Cloud Computing. We value research skills, innovation, proven systems intuition, systems building experience and a demonstrated desire to implement one's own ideas. Candidate must have a Master's Degree in Computer Science or closely-related field. Five years experience with a record of innovation and impact in some area of Computer Security is preferred. Candidate should have effective communication skills in both technical and customer situations. Candidate should also be able to define new research directions, drive a project from exploratory thinking to the development of a practical solution or service, and have impact across our company or the entire industry. Employees in this role use a variety of formal and informal requirement/design artifacts to architect, design, prototype and implement software components and systems to meet the indicated requirements. They can flexibly adapt to rapidly changing client or project requirements inherent in a research project, but are also able to integrate as necessary into formal products and services. They also ensure that the implemented components are tested and ready to be integrated into the project systems and proofs of concept. Software Engineering Researchers are expected to be agile in their development methodology, while also able to solve difficult problems, explore new domains, and work well across world-wide teams.
