Job Description:
Primary Purpose:
The Senior Systems Engineer functions and performs under the guidance and direction of the Systems Engineering Manager. The purpose of this position is to design to meet application requirements, to assist in the coordination of product development to meet program timelines, and to support integration, customer launch and service in the field.

Responsibility Level:
Under general supervision, this position is responsible for the electrical engineering activities required to develop and deliver a system for the Distributed Energy Storage (DES) application, with emphasis on the battery solution, battery management system, SW and integration within the containerized system. This includes design, test, and utilization of new HW/SW tools to validate, install and confirm battery performance in compliance with customer specifications. In addition, responsibilities include coordination of integration and commissioning efforts of the entire DES solution at customer sites.
Primary Duties:
  • Develop and validate system architectures that meet commercial DES application needs
  • Design, validate, troubleshoot and repair high voltage battery systems for the DES application
  • Able to validate and author new application software algorithms
  • Lead technical interface in customer application meetings
  • Direct and coordinate installation and integration of new DES deliverables, working direct with the customer at customer site
  • Create, implement and document complete tests plans as part of the DVP&R
  • Author new validation processes for SW verification testing
  • Provide input to and maintain existing high voltage battery system user manuals
  • Implement and assist other engineers with design for manufacturability (DFM) to ensure that the design of components will optimize the manufacturing and assembly process. Ensure that the design of all components facilitates handling throughout the product life cycle, from shipping through disassembly and recycling
  • Perform troubleshooting tasks independently and recommend different methodologies to find a solution to the issue
  • Mentor and train less experienced engineers

Job Qualifications:
Job Specifications /Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology from accredited four-year college or university
  • Minimum 8 years related work experience or equivalent
  • At least two years' experience with vehicle Controlled Area Network (CAN) communication and development tools
  • Experience with higher voltage DC battery systems
  • Experience with 480Vac 3-phase inverters/rectification a plus
  • Proficient in computer software, including, but not limited to, MS Office Suite, Minitab, Vector SW CAN Suite, National Instruments LabView, and MatLab
  • SolidWorks CAD SW experience preferred
  • Solid communication and organizational skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills

Additional Requirements:
Able to lift/handle battery components weighing up to 50 lbs
Travel expectation is up to 20%, and may include international

Working Conditions:
HV Laboratory environment requiring the use of proper PPE
On-site outdoor installations
