Role synopsis
The position will provide legal support to the Integrated Supply & Trading (IST) Global Oil Americas business, in the nature of counseling, drafting, negotiating, as well as providing regulatory and transactional assistance.

Key accountabilities
The position will provide legal support in the nature of counseling, drafting, negotiating, as well as providing regulatory and transactional assistance to the Global Oil Americas business Unit including: - drafting and supporting negotiation of long and short term oil and petroleum product purchase and sale agreements; transportation and storage agreements, and master trading agreements; - advising on international trade issues, including marine issues from a shipper standpoint, trade sanctions, Incoterms and letter of credit issues; - drafting and supporting negotiation of derivative and structured product agreements; - reviewing, drafting and supporting negotiation of credit support arrangements such as guarantees, master netting agreements, and security agreements; - drafting and supporting negotiation of business development transactions including supply and offtake transactions; and - advising as to the relevant laws and regulations applicable to oil and petroleum product transactions, including transportation and storage agreements. The position will also require cross-team collaboration and coordination of legal workload with the other internal Legal teams, with colleagues in Canada, the UK and Singapore, IST Ethics and Compliance and with outside counsel. The lawyer should have a proven track record as a team player and as an effective manager of resources, both internal and external.

Essential Education
Law degree required. Must be licensed attorney.

Essential experience and job requirements
The applicant should have a minimum of 10 years experience • The applicant should be an experienced legal practitioner preferably with extensive experience in the handling of oil and petroleum product trading and marketing issues as well as structured transactions, who brings to the position significant client counseling, negotiation and transactional abilities. • The applicant must have a proven record of commercial awareness and of high-quality contribution to business strategy and delivery. • The applicant should also have an extensive knowledge of the oil industry's operations and interrelationships. • Ideally, the applicant will have US and international and/or cross-business experience. • The successful applicant will have drive, commitment, a bias for action and a preparedness to collaborate and innovate. • The applicant must be a team player with the ability to focus, direct and manage the efforts of internal and external legal resources to provide critical legal support to Global Oil Americas. • The candidate must work well with clients and BP management to advise them on important legal aspects of transactions, with particular emphasis on regulatory issues. • The successful applicant will also demonstrate the highest professional and ethical standards and a strong commitment to attaining excellent Health Safety Security & Environment and compliance performance.
