The Network Infrastructure Services (NIS) team is accountable for Microsoft IT networks globally. The Network Engineer for DDI Services will lead engineering activities across Name Resolution (DNS), Global Traffic Management (GTM, IP Address Management (IPAM) and IP Allocation Services (DHCP). The focus of this position will be to review, design and deliver infrastructure solutions that provide the underpinning for client and server connectivity within the Microsoft corporate and global networks. Additionally, this position will be called upon for escalation support on DDI Services and related incidents.
This role has accountabilities and responsibilities for partnering with its peer teams, (IME) Manageability, (SPC) Service Provider Core, Architecture, and various other cross-org teams to execute proofs of concept, pilots, device and hardware validation and certification, develop standards and overall IP Services guidance. This position requires an individual with proven ability to lead technical efforts and collaborate across teams to deliver business impact through high quality and reliable network services.
Engineering - be a practicing engineer with experience delivering solutions through the IT lifecycle from gathering and balancing business requirements through delivering a solution that provides measurable value, is operable, maintainable, and replaceable.
Technical - have an in-depth multi-disciplined knowledge of Network, Storage and Compute technologies and how they are evolving. Strong candidates should be knowledgeable with existing IP Services functionality including Windows name resolution, Firewalls, Proxy Services, IPv6, DNS and DHCP feature and capabilities.
Collaborative - experience working in virtual team environments across business boundaries to deliver value beyond the scope of your reporting structure, focus on business value to the Microsoft ecosystem of customers, partners, and employees, and be a champion for intellectual property (IP) sharing and reuse.
Required Technical Skills/Experience/Certifications:
•3+ years of experience in a large enterprise in infrastructure engineering or delivery role
•Network and/or Windows certifications
•Excellent IP networking fundamentals and extensive experience in the application of IP protocols.
•Knowledge and experience with major internet routing protocols; specifically BGP and OSPF.
•Excellent analysis fundamentals and robust troubleshooting skills.
•Knowledge of IP address management tools such as IP-Control or IP-Plan
•Strong knowledge of IP networks and IP Addressing (IPv4/IPv6) (sub-netting, broadcast, multi-cast)
•Experience working with Ethernet packet analyzers/sniffers such as Wireshark.
•Design resilient, secure and highly available infrastructure services which deliver business value for our customers.
•Design in accordance with industry best practice where ever possible.
