Detailed Position Responsibilities: Imagine the city of the future where sensors are seamlessly embedded in our city's infrastructure to drive insights and create meaningful interactions with our citizens. This vision, part of what is known as the SmartCity, is one of the many topics being researched at Philips Lighting. Such interactions may span public spaces such as parks and roadways or private spaces such as homes, offices, and shopping areas. Broadly speaking, the Internet of Things (IoT) is a system consisting of networks of sensors, actuators, and smart objects whose purpose is to interconnect "all" things, including everyday and industrial objects, in such a way as to make them intelligent, programmable, and more capable of interacting with humans and each other. Philips Lighting Research North America is looking for a highly motivated and qualified candidate for a twelve-week research internship in the field of data analytics. The intern will be responsible to analyze large data collected from various internal and external sources. Specific task includes, developing machine learning algorithms to generate insights, and intuitive visualization to convey results to technical and non-technical stakeholders. This will be a very good opportunity to gain experience and exposure in big data related problems and develop cutting edge solutions for smart cities. We are looking for a graduate level student (PhD preferred) in computer science or an engineering related discipline. Candidate should have deep knowledge in machine learning. Strong coding experience, and some UI skills are expected. The candidate will be responsible for establishing database replicas, pre-processing the dataset, mining the database for retrieving relevant information and generating reports. Prior experience in big data analytics is big plus. Candidate must be able to work within a team environment and should be self-motivated with the ability to plan and execute. Candidate should also be able to communicate in English effectively, both verbally and written.
