Role Summary:

As a Software Architect you will work closely with GE research teams and GE businesses to evaluate, create and implement new software architectures to facilitate the evolution of new product opportunities in diverse areas across multiple technical domains.

Essential Responsibilities:

In this role you will work primarily with other software researchers as well as business leads and other architects to apply the latest software architectures and concepts to research projects. This will also involve collaboration with the GE Software Center of Excellence to align research projects with the direction of the platform as well as to provide feedback and guidance to them. You will work closely with the researchers in diverse areas and will need to quickly understand and provide architecture support for their specific solutions leveraging the common platform, where applicable.

You will:

+ Apply the GE software platform and other architecture concepts to research that will transform GE's products to create new market opportunities and solve business challenges.

+ Become familiar with, leverage, and contribute to the overall architecture of the platforms, frameworks, and technologies developed within GE's SW COE where applicable.

+ Work closely with our GE business partners to architect software services and design systems to address and solve business challenges and issues;

+ Work closely with cross-functional research project teams and Software Systems Lab team members to design and develop research projects.

+ Promote Agile/Scrum software engineering practices in the day-to-day development of solutions.

+ Enable business and external funding through evaluating emerging software technologies and determining target architectures where they can be used to bring value to GE research projects;

+ Identify high-level project and platform requirements from business and customer needs;

+ Utilize or create state-of-the-art technology to solve such problems;

+ Innovate, patent and publish, as appropriate.

Qualifications/Requirements:

+ Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline with at least 10 years' experience in software design and development;

+ At least 5 years' experience in a chief or senior architect role.

+ At least 5 years' experience with remote teams across multiple time zones.

+ Strong knowledge of OOD, software design patterns and principles.

+ Experience with leading a team and architecting a product in an Agile/Scrum environment.

+ Demonstrated ability to convert high-level customer needs into a technical development strategy;

+ Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required.

+ Must be willing to work out of an office located in Niskayuna, NY.

+ Must be willing to take a drug test and submit to a background investigation as part of the selection process.

+ Must be 18 years or older.

Desired Characteristics:

+ Good interpersonal and communication skills. Communicate effectively both in written and oral English;

+ Self-motivated, innovative, willing to pursue new technical areas and capable of working independently;

+ PhD. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline with at least 5 years' experience in software design and development;

+ Experience with Behavior Driven Development and/or Test Driven Development (BDD/TDD)

+ Certified Scrum Master (CSM) or Certified Product Owner (CPO) or similar

+ Experience and familiarity with Continuous Integration including but not limited to:

+ Backlog Mgmt (Jira/Greenhopper)

+ Defect Tracking (Jira)

+ Collaboration (Confluence, Colab, SupportCentral, Folder/libraries)

+ Continuous Integration/Deployment (Bamboo, Hudson)

+ Code Review (Fisheye/Crucible)

+ Artifact Repository (Artifactory, Confluence, GE Folders/Libraries) Definition of "Artifact"...Jar...library...User Document

+ Extensive influencing experience across multiple technical levels.

+ Architecture certification (e.g. TOGAF)

+ Domain Driven Design and Test Driven Design project experience.

+ At least one large example of setting up an enterprise level based environment
