Power BI is the future of data exploration. Microsoft is investing a tremendous number of resources into Power BI with a singular objective: to empower our users to visualize their most critical business data so they can make real-time decisions. We just shipped our first major offering in July of last year and our initial usage numbers are astounding. Microsoft expects "hockey stick" growth with Power BI, but that is almost entirely dependent on us building a robust developer experience that allows businesses to push their data directly into Power BI and customize their data exploration experience.
Our team is responsible for delivering the best desktop application for visual analytics and reporting. We provide customers with capability to connect, shape, analyze, and visualize their data all in one tool. Our customers love what we have done so far and are very excited about all the new features we roll out monthly! Our customer base grows very quickly and with that the demand for the new more advanced analytical and reporting functionality in the product. This is where you come in! We need you to come and help designing and implementing the future of our product. We love open source. Our Power BI Desktop is using Chromium, C#, AnjularJS, D3.js, Quill and many more. We are constantly looking for opportunities to increase customer value or team productivity by onboarding new open source projects. That is us.
Here is how we would describe the perfect you:
You have passion for amazing developer experiences. You are excited about data and can talk for ever about interesting insights you discovered. You know that customers are real people with real problems and you are passionate about understanding their needs and excited when you can make a difference in their experience. You want to work on a team that believes in their product and puts themselves into making it successful. You don’t want just another boring dev job to pay the bills. You love getting into the details, but you don’t let perfection cripple progress. You have an open mind. You have an opinion, but aren’t opinionated. You were born to iterate and evolve everything you do - and don't burn yourself out doing it. You can accomplish a lot in your own right, but can also be the perfect team member and use the synergy of the team to accomplish more than you could ever do on your own. You love to code and you are working on a thousand things at once; not because you are paid to do it, but because you are curious. You want to change the world and are looking for the perfect opportunity to do so. Does that describe you? If so, then this Power BI team is the place for you!
Here are the skills we look for in what we think will be perfect additions to our team.
• B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Computer Science or equivalent work experience.
• 3+ years of experience as a software developer - software design and development skills.
• You must be a coder.
• 80% of your time is spent creating code.
• 1+ years of working knowledge of modern tech and a popular programming language like C# or TypeScript. You do not need to know them all; we just expect you to be an expert in at least one major language.
A successful candidate will meet the following:
• People skills: We want people who work well with others.
• You are positive and genuinely like people.
• You understand they are not perfect and have patience to work through difficult issues.
• Ability to dive deep into a complex big system, and develop on top of it.
We are not overly concerned with your CS101 skills. You must show that you are disciplined and care about creating high-quality software. We promise to review every resume and look forward to speaking with everyone that stands out to us. When you apply, feel free to include a brief cover letter that explains why you are the perfect fit for our team. We expect a lot of submissions, so the more information you can provide us the better.
