The Bing Local Search team is looking for a strong software engineer. The team is responsible for delivering the best location-relevant results to Bing users. If you’ve ever searched for a restaurant, hotel or local business on Bing, you’ve been using local search. We are powering local search for Bing, Microsoft Maps, Cortana and we provide technologies to many other partners inside and outside Microsoft. Our ambition is to satisfy all our users’ needs in any device when searching for anything related to a location or places and we strive to be the best in the industry!

Positions with our team involve a fair amount of deep thinking and experimentation to solve the many hard problems that we face. Curiosity, creativity and versatility are strongly valued. Successful candidates will also need to demonstrate ability to deliver viable solutions that can run efficiently and reliably in large distributed computing environments. We are hiring a software engineer focusing on local relevance metrics and measurement. Metrics is the foundation of search quality and relevance. Optimizing search quality without the right metric is like flying blindly. Defining the right metrics involves both science and engineering and it touches a lot of aspects such as human-computer interaction, statistics, data mining etc. The candidate will take responsibilities in developing and refining local relevance metrics, analyzing metrics and data to gain competitive insights, and to work with many teams and developers to make sure we are providing the right metric to guide the relevance improvement work!


- 3+ years excellent programming experience in C++/C#, proven track record on shipping products/services with high quality

- 3+ years’ experience in developing and delivering advanced engineering projects

- Passionate and self-motivated, great communication skills

- Strong knowledge of data structures and algorithms

- Experience with statistical modeling, data mining or machine learning

- Degree in Computer Science or related technical field; advanced degree in Math, Statistics, Computer Science a strong plus
