Electrical Automation Solutions, Electrical Sector- Americas has an opening for a Software Intern position located in Gaithersburg, MD.

As a Software Intern at Eaton, you will team up with an experienced engineer who will mentor and coordinate your activities.  The mentor will work closely with you to ensure you are given the right tools and knowledge to be able to apply learned concepts to real situations and ensure success.  You will set detailed goals at the start of the term, will be provided feedback and evaluations as you progress, and will receive a final evaluation upon completion of the assignment. Assignments will be based on your experience and ability as well as the needs of the business.
 
Possible Assignments: 
  • Add firmware modules for an existing product
  • Add new features to the product verification software
  • Work with Software Engineer to write test plans
  • Work with Software Engineer to automate test plan
  • Run tests against product to identify firmware issues
  • Use debug tools to identify and fix firmware 
Experience Gained:
  • Working collaboratively with experienced software engineers and developers
  • Working in a large and mature code base
  • Improved software engineering skills; writing requirements, evaluating feasibility, and designing solutions based on stakeholder and user analysis
  • Improved coding skills and experience
  • Handling projects from start to finish
  • Learn about the software development process
  • Learn about the utility industry


Basic Qualifications (Including Educational Requirements)
Basic Qualifications: 
  • Full-time sophomore or junior student enrolled in a four-year college or university working toward a BS or MS in Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
  • Bachelor’s & Master's degree students must earn a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0-point scale
  • Must be able to work full time during summer months; prefer students willing to continue part time throughout school year
  • Legally authorized to work in the U.S. full-time and without restriction during co-op term
  • Relocation is not offered for this position and candidates must reside/attend school within a 50 mile radius of Gaithersburg, MD 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Basic understanding Assembly Code and C
  • Some understanding of networking concepts
  • Able to identify component symbols
  • Understand basic circuit implementation
  • Attention to detail, critical thinking, and creative problem solving
