The Special Procedures Technologist is responsible for operating the imaging equipment and producing radiographs according to the standards and practices set forth by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. The Special Procedures Technologist assists the radiologist or physician to perform interventional procedures. The Special Procedures Technologist demonstrates knowledge of the human structure and functions, patient care, positioning, principles of radiographic sciences, radiation protection and specialized techniques unique to the Special Procedures environment. Exercises professional judgment in performance of services and maintains a demeanor complementary of medical ethics.
Knowledge & Skills:
Must possess the knowledge, skills and abilities to provide technical support for all interventional procedures performed in the Special Procedures lab. Must work well with others in a busy imaging department. Must be customer oriented to provide outstanding services to patients, physicians, visitors and co-workers. Maintains awareness of patient privacy, confidentiality and dignity at all times. Must be able to demonstrate understanding of national patient safety initiatives by strict compliance to all safety protocols and procedures as required by both HCA and North Austin Medical Center.
Required: Graduate of an American Medical Association- approved program in Radiologic Technology. Must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Preferred: Registered Technologist with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, post- primary certification in Cardiovascular-Interventional Technology.
Required: Certified Texas Department of Health Medical Radiologic Technologist. Must have current basic CPR certification.
