Manipulates large financial data sets from an IBM System/DB2 (AS400) database using SEQUEL and retrieves the desired data into Microsoft Excel using VBA. Assists with recurring month-end AS400 job monitoring and report updates. Continues to learn more advanced insurance and programming concepts through reading, training sessions and work assignments. Does not entail the use of Actuarial methodologies.Required Skills: Knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Excel and VBA as well as SQL. SQL Server or SAS is a plus.Please note - while previous actuarial experience and/or exams may be helpful in this role, they are not required and this position is not eligible for participation in Nationwide's actuarial studies support program.

SUMMARY: Estimates future loss and premium results for ratemaking or reserving purposes using actuarial methodologies. With minimal supervision, successfully completes a wide variety of actuarial assignments.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:1. Retrieves and manipulates data; responsible for suitability and accuracy of data. Continues to develop knowledge of more advanced actuarial methodologies.2. Conducts analyses that adhere to actuarial standards of practice: selects appropriate data sources and data types, and makes assumptions when data integrity is questionable.3. Documents assumptions, sources, and considerations; organizes documents.4. Notes unreasonable results/non-optimal solutions; investigates; suggests alternative resolutions.5. Prepares internal memos, documents, and letters as needed. Communications are to be concise, logical, organized, and grammatically correct with the appropriate level of technical terms suitable to the audience.6. Develops personal work schedule to ensure timely completion of assigned tasks; coordinates with others as appropriate.7. Participates in Peer Tech Reviews.8. May train new employees in unit on standard work processes. Participates as assigned in interview activities or on interdisciplinary teams.9. May supervise or serve as group leader on an ongoing or developmental basis.RELATIONSHIP: Associate Actuary , Actuary, Senior Actuary,EDUCATION/ KNOWLEDGE: Bachelors degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, economics or related field with a strong quantitative orientation. Sound knowledge of actuarial methods/concepts, insurance terminology and products; evidence of familiarity with legal requirements in area of assignment. Must display command of procedures and methodologies employed in area of assignment.EXPERIENCE: Five years related experience in an actuarial and statistical support. No actuarial exams required.SKILLS: Demonstrated work product accuracy. Effective oral/written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to comprehend actuarial concerns and other advanced statistical concepts. Demonstrated ability to think logically and handle non-routine assignments; Ability effectively use personal computer and related actuarial and business software.
